  • • The Technical Community Manager, Campus Leaders role at OpenAI is pivotal in shaping how the company engages with and supports the most advanced student builders and future startup founders on leading global campuses. This position ensures OpenAI’s tools are not only adopted but deeply understood and creatively applied by the next generation of AI innovators, directly influencing product development, education strategy through real-world insights and initiatives.

  • • Day to day, the role involves building and maintaining relationships with standout student leaders at frontier campuses, supporting them in planning semester strategies, recruiting members, and sustaining engagement; serving as the primary OpenAI point of contact for campus chapters; designing and executing events, workshops, and activations; coaching leaders to grow thriving communities; capturing insights and best practices to share globally; and connecting students with relevant OpenAI teams, speakers, programs, and opportunities.
  • • The Community team at OpenAI builds direct relationships with users of its technology, amplifies their stories, and channels their insights to product and research teams. Operating at the intersection of product, education, and developer ecosystems, the team ensures that real-world usage informs innovation and that users feel seen, supported, and empowered to build with AI.
  • • In this role, you will develop deep expertise in AI-native builder culture, gain experience scaling community programs across diverse academic environments, refine your ability to translate grassroots feedback into strategic product and education insights, and build a influential network of student leaders shaping the future of AI collaboration and learning.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Deep knowledge of AI tools, including ChatGPT, Codex, and OpenAI APIs, with coding ability and comfort helping students build, debug, prototype, and apply OpenAI products in real, highly-technical projects
  • • Has personally built, prototyped, or shipped projects using AI tools, APIs, agents, coding assistants, or related developer workflows
  • • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build trusting, sincere relationships with ambitious, highly capable people
  • • Strong project and program management skills, with experience coordinating events, initiatives, or communities involving multiple stakeholders
  • • Demonstrated ability to operate independently, exercise good judgment, and navigate ambiguity
  • • Strong pulse on AI-native builder culture: actively follows and participates in technical builder communities, understands exceptional AI projects and workflows, and can identify standout students, projects, and communities early
  • • Experience designing and executing community programs, events, workshops, fellowships, ambassador programs, or similar initiatives
  • • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple campus relationships simultaneously
