đź“‹ Description
- • As a Technical Deployment Lead (TDL) at OpenAI, you will be at the forefront of transforming cutting-edge AI research into tangible, production-grade systems for the semiconductor industry. This pivotal role within the Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team is designed for individuals who thrive on bridging the gap between advanced technology and real-world application, ensuring our most complex AI solutions are successfully integrated and adopted by high-value customers.
- • You will be the primary architect of how OpenAI delivers sophisticated AI capabilities to semiconductor clients, taking ownership of the entire solution lifecycle. This includes meticulously scoping projects, overseeing their development, managing their deployment, and championing their adoption within critical engineering workflows such as Register-Transfer Level (RTL) design, verification, and physical implementation.
- • Your core responsibility will be to translate abstract business outcomes and customer objectives into concrete, actionable technical plans. This involves not only defining the strategy but also actively managing the day-to-day execution. You will lead and coordinate efforts across a diverse team, including FDEs, Research Scientists, and Customer Engineers, while fostering strong partnerships with customer engineering teams to guarantee that the delivered solutions align with and actively support their strategic goals.
- • The focus of this role is on the semiconductor vertical, where you will spearhead the deployment of next-generation AI capabilities. You will manage delivery from inception to completion, embedding yourself within customer organizations to thoroughly map their existing workflows and define clear success criteria. Your role will ensure that all project components are delivered on schedule, and you will lead the critical readiness and change management initiatives necessary for successful adoption.
- • You will meticulously track project progress, proactively manage dependencies, make crucial sequencing decisions, and guide 0→1 prototypes through Minimum Viable Product (MVP) stages to full-scale implementation. Furthermore, you will serve as a vital conduit, channeling field insights and lessons learned back to the Product and Research teams, thereby influencing the future roadmap and strategic priorities of OpenAI's AI offerings.
- • Success in this role is fundamentally measured by the impact you drive. This means delivering deployments that yield measurable value against customer objectives, foster widespread adoption, and become indispensable to their daily engineering operations. Additional key performance indicators include the reliability of your deliveries (meeting milestones, minimizing rework or churn), operational efficiency (identifying and promoting reusable patterns across multiple deployments), your ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure, and the tangible impact your work has on product development (providing field intelligence that shapes roadmaps and architectural decisions).
- • This is a role that demands and offers high trust and autonomy. To excel, you will need profound expertise in technical project management, an unwavering sense of ownership for outcomes, and the capacity to deeply immerse yourself in customer workflows. You must be adept at partnering with customer teams to tackle intricate engineering challenges at a rapid pace.
- • You will be instrumental in defining the strategic engagement model for OpenAI with its semiconductor customers, shaping how we approach and deliver value in this critical sector.
- • Key activities include owning the technical delivery plan for multiple, potentially interdependent work streams, translating high-level customer objectives into a detailed roadmap complete with milestones, identified dependencies, and clear acceptance criteria.
- • You will actively run day-to-day engineering execution by diligently tracking and driving delivery progress across both OpenAI's FDE teams and the customer's internal teams, ensuring that progress remains unblocked and appropriately sequenced. This involves making critical real-time trade-offs on scope and priority to safeguard the project's critical path.
- • Embedding with semiconductor customer teams will be essential to successfully land production deployments and drive user adoption. This requires mapping their existing workflows, shaping the necessary tools and integrations, and translating their unique requirements into a robust delivery plan.
- • You will shape production deployments that seamlessly integrate with complex customer infrastructure, diverse data systems, and established engineering toolchains, including those operating under export-controlled environments.
- • Close collaboration with Product and Research teams is vital to ensure that platform components and research work streams are delivered in a timely manner to support deployment goals.
- • A significant aspect of the role involves codifying successful solution patterns and evaluation methodologies. You will extract reusable patterns and package valuable field signals to enhance both OpenAI's products and its underlying AI models.
- • You will own the definition and measurement of value cases and Return on Investment (ROI). This includes setting impact hypotheses, establishing baselines, defining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and conducting pre- and post-deployment measurements, reporting findings to executive sponsors.
- • Ultimately, you will help define and refine how OpenAI engages with and delivers value to its semiconductor customers.
