- • Evaluate and maintain existing Lawyer Professional Liability (LPL) policies to ensure data accuracy, appropriate pricing, and compliance with underwriting guidelines for renewals.
- • Prepare renewal strategies, underwriting summaries, and policy updates based on law firm risk profiles, practice areas, jurisdictions, and prior claims history.
- • Serve as the primary point of contact for brokers to gather critical underwriting information including firm size, areas of legal practice, claims history, and exposure details.
- • Respond to broker inquiries regarding coverage terms, underwriting appetite, submission requirements, and policy-specific details for Lawyer Professional Liability.
- • Prepare, review, and organize complete underwriting submissions including applications, loss runs, legal risk documentation, and supporting financial records.
- • Conduct thorough risk assessments of law firms to identify key exposures such as conflicts of interest, high-risk specialties, and emerging legal trends.
- • Calculate premium rates using LPL underwriting guidelines and approved rating tools, analyzing coverage terms including limits, retentions, endorsements, and exclusions.
- • Ensure all underwriting files meet internal standards, audit requirements, and regulatory compliance guidelines, including surplus lines regulations where applicable.
- • Maintain accurate and up-to-date underwriting data and generate reports on portfolio performance, renewal trends, retention rates, and loss ratios.
- • Collaborate with underwriting team members to evaluate complex risks, prioritize workflow, and support underwriting decision-making.
- • Work cross-functionally with claims, actuarial, and legal teams to align underwriting practices with broader organizational risk and financial objectives.
- • Deliver high-quality customer service by promptly addressing broker inquiries, resolving issues, and building strong, trust-based relationships.
- • Support internal and external audit processes by providing complete, organized, and compliant documentation for all underwriting activities.
- • Adhere to company underwriting guidelines, insurance regulations, and compliance protocols to mitigate operational and legal risk.
- • Utilize Excel and other data tools for analysis, reporting, and documentation of underwriting metrics and portfolio performance.
- • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and organizational skills to manage multiple submissions and deadlines efficiently.
- • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with brokers, clients, and internal teams to ensure clarity and accuracy in underwriting communications.
- • Work independently while contributing to team goals and maintaining alignment with underwriting department priorities.
🎯 Requirements
- • 2+ years of underwriting experience in Professional Liability or Financial Lines
- • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- • State Property & Casualty license (or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe)
- • Exposure to Lawyer Professional Liability (LPL) or similar E&O lines is preferred
- • Proficiency in Excel and experience with insurance data analysis and reporting
- • Knowledge of Professional Liability/E&O underwriting practices and law firm risk profiles
