  • • The US Director, Payor & Access Strategy Lead, Medical Affairs (PASL) is responsible for US Field Medical strategy, training, and prioritization of the Value & Implementation (V&I) plan for US Medical Affairs Health Systems Oncology (HSO), driving strategic excellence and readiness in support of payor access, pharmacoeconomic, and scientific exchange aligned to global V&I plan priorities.
  • • Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and directing payor and access strategy, leading the US HSO integrated Field Medical plan process, collecting and analyzing scientific insights from field engagements, leading the US Payor Access Team, serving as the interface between GMSA, Commercial, and HQ functions, identifying and prioritizing field resources and training needs, collaborating on strategic congress priorities, scanning the healthcare environment for emerging trends, and representing USMA HSO in Expert Input Forums or Advisory Boards.
  • • The role sits within Merck & Co., Inc.’s Research and Development (R&D) division, specifically within US Medical Affairs (USMA) and Health Systems Oncology (HSO), working as an impactful member of cross-functional US Medical Affairs Teams (USMAT) and Value Teams (VT) to align medical and commercial strategy.
  • • The person in this role can achieve strategic impact on oncology patient access, develop expertise in value-based healthcare and pharmacoeconomics, lead complex matrixed initiatives, influence global medical and commercial strategy, and build deep relationships with internal and external stakeholders including scientific leaders and decision-makers.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Advanced healthcare/science degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD)
  • • 5+ years of prior pharmaceutical industry experience, preferably in Field Medical or Medical Affairs strategy within oncology, or equivalent experience in quality/managed care/cancer center settings with demonstrated oncology scientific acumen
  • • Demonstrated ability to create and implement a strategic plan
  • • Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking, and results-oriented project management skills
  • • Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine, US healthcare delivery system, pharmacoeconomics, population health management, quality management, value-based payment, and healthcare delivery policy and trends
  • • Ability to network and partner with important internal and external stakeholders, including cross-functional teams, scientific leaders, and key decision makers
