- • Lead and nurture a high-performing team of User Experience (UX) designers, fostering an environment of psychological safety, clear direction, and robust career development. Your leadership will be instrumental in empowering designers to do their best work and grow professionally.
- • Establish and refine comprehensive design workflows, standards, and regular team rituals. These processes will be designed to systematically enhance the quality, speed, and consistency of design output across all projects, ensuring a high level of polish and efficiency.
- • Take ownership of the end-to-end design process for critical product areas. This involves guiding the strategic direction of design initiatives, providing constructive and insightful critique, and ensuring the delivery of cohesive, user-friendly, and accessible digital experiences that align with user needs and business objectives.
- • Cultivate strong, collaborative partnerships with Product Management, Engineering, and User Research teams. Your role will be to inform product strategy, co-create solutions, and ensure a harmonious balance between user needs, overarching business goals, and technical feasibility.
- • Champion the strengthening and governance of our design systems. This includes embedding principles of accessibility, inclusivity, and modern UX patterns to ensure consistency, scalability, and adherence to best practices across all digital products.
- • Articulate design decisions, strategic rationale, and their tangible business impact with clarity and confidence to diverse audiences, including cross-functional teams and executive leadership.
- • Drive innovation in UX design by exploring and integrating emerging technologies and methodologies, such as AI-enhanced workflows, to continuously improve the design process and user outcomes.
- • Ensure that all digital experiences are not only aesthetically pleasing and functional but also meet stringent accessibility standards, making them usable by the widest possible audience, including individuals with disabilities.
- • Act as a key advocate for user-centered design principles throughout the organization, influencing product roadmaps and strategic planning to prioritize user needs and enhance overall customer satisfaction.
- • Contribute to the development of a strong design culture within the company, encouraging knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and a shared commitment to design excellence.
- • Collaborate with stakeholders to define key performance indicators (KPIs) for UX initiatives, enabling the measurement of design's impact on business metrics such as user engagement, conversion rates, customer satisfaction, and retention.
- • Oversee the user research process, ensuring that insights from both qualitative and quantitative studies are effectively translated into actionable design improvements and strategic recommendations.
- • Mentor and guide designers in the application of advanced UX techniques, including journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing, to ensure the creation of intuitive and effective user interfaces.
- • Proactively identify opportunities for design improvement and innovation, presenting compelling cases for new initiatives and advocating for the resources needed to execute them.
- • Contribute to the strategic vision for Cengage's digital products, ensuring that the user experience is a central pillar of the company's competitive advantage and long-term success.
- • Manage the design team's workload and resource allocation, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within scope, while maintaining high standards of quality and creativity.
- • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the design team, encouraging experimentation, learning from failures, and celebrating successes.
- • Serve as a bridge between user needs and business objectives, translating complex requirements into elegant and effective design solutions.
- • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies in UX design and educational technology to inform strategic decisions and maintain Cengage's position at the forefront of digital learning experiences.
- • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external partners and vendors as needed, ensuring alignment with Cengage's design standards and project goals.
- • Champion the principles of inclusive design, ensuring that products are usable and valuable for all learners, regardless of their background, abilities, or circumstances.
