Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a User Researcher focused on Growth at Notion Labs, Inc., you will play a pivotal role in shaping product strategy by uncovering deep insights into how users interact with AI-powered features like Notion Agent and Chat, directly influencing adoption, monetization, and long-term value creation in a fast-moving, innovation-driven environment.
- • Your work will bridge traditional growth research with cutting-edge AI experiences, ensuring that product decisions are grounded in real user behavior, motivations, and pain points across complex user journeys—from onboarding to workspace creation and beyond.
- • You will operate within a collaborative, in-person-first culture that values Anchor Days (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays in the San Francisco office), fostering spontaneous ideation and tight alignment with product, design, engineering, and go-to-market teams.
- • Day to day, you will design and execute mixed-methods research studies—including interviews, concept testing, prototype usability tests, diary studies, and surveys—to evaluate how users discover, trust, and derive value from AI features, while identifying barriers to adoption and willingness to pay.
- • You will leverage AI-powered research tooling (such as Outset, Listen Labs, or Dovetail) to scale data collection, analysis, and reporting, enabling faster iteration and broader impact across teams.
- • You will synthesize qualitative and quantitative findings into compelling, actionable narratives tailored to diverse audiences—executives, product managers, engineers—using creative formats like videos, podcasts, workshops, and interactive reports to drive alignment and decision-making.
- • You will partner closely with growth, product, and AI teams to translate research insights into strategic opportunities, helping prioritize roadmap items that enhance user activation, retention, and monetization of AI capabilities.
- • You will apply systems thinking to map complex user journeys across Notion’s ecosystem, identifying friction points where AI experiences break down or fail to deliver expected value, especially in ambiguous, 0→1 product areas.
- • You will continuously refine your research practice by staying current on AI product trends, behavioral science, and experimental design, ensuring your methods remain rigorous and relevant in a rapidly evolving landscape.
- • You will contribute to building a research culture that values curiosity, pragmatism, and communication excellence, mentoring others and advocating for user-centered practices throughout the organization.
- • About the team or company: Notion is a mission-driven company building a unified workspace that replaces fragmented tools with a flexible, all-in-one platform for docs, notes, projects, calendars, and email—enhanced by AI to automate work and surface insights. Trusted by millions, including industry leaders like Toyota, Figma, and OpenAI, Notion empowers individuals and teams to work more efficiently and creatively.
- • The company fosters a culture of ownership, craftsmanship, and intellectual curiosity, where employees are encouraged to think like builders and challenge the status quo in service of making software toolmaking ubiquitous.
- • What you can learn or achieve in this role: You will gain deep expertise in researching AI-enabled products at the forefront of human-computer interaction, positioning yourself as a leader in the emerging field of AI user research.
- • You will develop strategic influence by connecting user insights directly to business outcomes, growth levers, and revenue opportunities, preparing you for senior research or product leadership roles.

- • Excellent communication skills, with a track record of adapting research insights for diverse audiences using creative formats (e.g., videos, workshops, reports)
