Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • As a UX Engineer on the Designbase team at Homebase Labs Inc., you will play a critical role in bridging design and engineering by building and maintaining a scalable component library that powers product experiences across web and native platforms for over 100,000 small businesses.
- • You will collaborate closely with a Senior Design Engineer, Design Systems Lead Designer, and Design Manager to ensure design intent is faithfully translated into production-ready components, directly impacting the velocity and consistency of 10+ designers, 10+ PMs, and 120+ engineers across the organization.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities include building and evolving components end-to-end — from Figma review to production code and documentation — while proactively identifying edge cases and reducing design gaps to maintain system integrity.
- • You will develop and maintain components across React Native (iOS/Android) and React (web), leveraging your cross-platform expertise to determine where logic can be shared and where platform-specific solutions are required, ensuring consistency and performance.
- • You will create clear, engineer-friendly documentation including usage guidelines, prop tables, accessibility notes, and do/don’t examples, treating documentation as an integral part of the component lifecycle.
- • You will integrate AI tools into your workflow to scaffold components, generate tests, draft documentation, and explore design patterns, using AI as a force multiplier to accelerate delivery without compromising quality.
- • You will champion accessibility by building components that meet WCAG 2.1 AA and platform-specific standards by default, catching issues early in the system layer to ensure inclusive experiences.
- • You will own and evolve the design token architecture, defining how tokens flow from Figma to code across web and native platforms to establish a scalable, consistent single source of truth.
- • You will support cross-team adoption by partnering with engineers across the org to unblock implementation, review PRs, and provide guidance that makes the design system intuitive and easy to use correctly.
- • You will engage in collaborative practices such as pairing with fellow engineers on complex React Native state issues and pressure-testing new patterns in Figma with the Design Systems Lead before implementation.
- • You will contribute to a culture of craftsmanship and continuous learning, where excellence in component design and system thinking directly enables broader product impact.
- • You will grow your expertise in design systems, AI-augmented development, and cross-platform UI engineering while working on high-leverage infrastructure that multiplies across every product team at Homebase.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4–7 years of experience in frontend, UX engineering, or design engineering, with meaningful time spent working on design systems and the ability to move fluidly between Figma and production code.
- • Proven cross-platform expertise in React Native (iOS/Android), React (web), and familiarity with Swift and Kotlin, including understanding platform-specific differences in layout, gestures, and conventions.
- • Strong Figma fluency, including deep understanding of tokens, auto-layout, and component systems, and how design decisions translate into scalable, maintainable code.
- • Hands-on experience with design token architecture — defining, maintaining, and evolving token systems across platforms to ensure a single source of truth for design and engineering.
- • Demonstrated accessibility knowledge, including experience building components that meet WCAG 2.1 AA and iOS/Android accessibility standards from the ground up.
- • Proficiency in leveraging AI tools to improve development speed, quality, and team workflows, with concrete examples of how AI has accelerated output in past roles.
- • Strong communication and testing practices, including experience writing clear documentation and implementing robust testing using React Testing Library, Jest, and visual regression tools.
🏖️ Benefits
