📋 Description

  • Anrok is at the forefront of tax automation, empowering businesses to navigate the complexities of global expansion without the burden of compliance. In today's rapidly evolving digital economy, businesses, particularly software companies, face an increasingly intricate web of sales tax obligations across numerous US states and international jurisdictions. This escalating challenge, from monitoring exposure and calculating rates to filing returns, presents a significant bottleneck for companies aiming for seamless global transactions. Anrok's innovative platform directly addresses this by integrating with billing and payment systems to automate tax monitoring, calculation, and end-to-end filing processes. We meticulously manage the dynamic landscape of tax laws at municipal, state, and federal levels, enabling our clients to concentrate on their core business growth rather than getting entangled in compliance intricacies. Our esteemed clientele includes a remarkable 40% of Forbes' Top 50 AI companies and 20% of Forbes' Top 100 Cloud companies, alongside industry leaders such as Notion, Anthropic, and Cursor. We are making compliant digital commerce a tangible reality for businesses of all sizes, fortified by over $100 million in funding from premier investors like Spark Capital, Sequoia, Index, and Khosla Ventures.
  • As a VAT Manager (APAC Australia) at Anrok, you will be instrumental in shaping and executing our tax compliance strategy for the crucial Australia and broader APAC regions. This role demands a deep understanding of regional tax regulations and a proactive approach to ensuring both Anrok and our clients remain compliant and ahead of the curve. You will serve as the primary subject matter expert for VAT and GST matters within these dynamic markets, providing critical guidance and strategic insights.
  • Key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing expert advice on Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration requirements, accurate rate determinations, and ongoing compliance obligations for businesses operating within Australia and other key APAC territories. This involves staying abreast of all relevant legislation and ensuring timely adherence.
  • Acting as the definitive subject matter expert for the APAC regions, serving as the go-to resource for internal teams and external stakeholders on all matters related to VAT and GST in these markets.
  • Developing and delivering comprehensive training programs for our dedicated Tax Operations team. This training will equip them to effectively oversee and manage VAT compliance operations across various APAC markets, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all filings for both Anrok and our diverse customer base.
  • Collaborating closely with our Product and Engineering teams to influence the development and enhancement of our tax automation platform. This partnership will focus on addressing specific, complex tax challenges, including the implementation of e-invoicing mandates, navigating fiscal representation requirements, and ensuring compliance with country-specific filing obligations unique to APAC jurisdictions.
  • Offering direct support for customer implementations and resolving complex escalations that involve APAC global tax compliance issues. This requires a client-centric approach and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve intricate tax-related problems efficiently.
  • Proactively monitoring and analyzing regulatory changes across the APAC tax landscape. This includes anticipating shifts in legislation, understanding their implications, and translating these changes into clear, actionable guidance for the business, ensuring Anrok and its clients are always prepared.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of Anrok's tax processes and methodologies, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency gains within the APAC context.
  • Engaging with external tax authorities and advisors as needed to clarify regulations and ensure best practices are maintained.
  • Maintaining a robust understanding of international tax treaties and their impact on VAT/GST obligations within the APAC region.
  • Assisting in the development of Anrok's go-to-market strategy for new APAC regions by providing expert tax insights and risk assessments.
  • Ensuring that Anrok's internal tax policies and procedures for the APAC region are up-to-date, compliant, and effectively communicated across relevant departments.
  • Playing a key role in fostering a culture of compliance and tax awareness within the organization, particularly concerning international operations.
  • Contributing to thought leadership content, such as blog posts or whitepapers, on APAC tax regulations and compliance best practices.
  • Supporting the sales and account management teams with expert tax knowledge during pre-sales discussions and ongoing client relationship management for APAC-based prospects and customers.
  • Ensuring that all tax-related data handled by Anrok for APAC operations is accurate, secure, and compliant with relevant data privacy regulations.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, to facilitate smooth tax operations and compliance.
  • Participating in industry forums and events to stay connected with the latest developments in APAC tax compliance and to represent Anrok as a leader in the field.
  • Driving the strategic direction of Anrok's VAT/GST compliance framework within the APAC region, ensuring scalability and adaptability to future market demands.
  • Performing regular tax risk assessments for Anrok's operations and customer base within the APAC region, identifying potential areas of exposure and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Overseeing the accurate application of tax codes and rules within Anrok's platform for the APAC region, ensuring alignment with current legislation.
  • Championing the use of technology to enhance tax compliance efficiency and accuracy for Anrok and its clients in Australia and the wider APAC region.

🎯 Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in GST/VAT compliance, with a significant focus on Australian tax regulations.
  • Current registration with the Australian Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) as a Tax Agent or BAS Agent, holding the authority to lodge BAS returns on behalf of clients.
  • A relevant Australian tertiary qualification, such as a degree or postgraduate award in accounting from an Australian institution, or a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping or Accounting) from a registered training organisation, coupled with the completion of TPB-approved courses in Australian taxation law and commercial law.
  • Strong, demonstrable working knowledge of VAT/GST registration processes, filing procedures, and reporting requirements specific to Australia and other key APAC jurisdictions.

🏖️ Benefits

  • Significant equity upside in a rapidly growing, well-funded startup with proven product-market fit.
  • An annual learning and development stipend to support professional growth through books, online courses, and conferences, fostering a culture of continuous learning within a collaborative team environment.
  • Regular team offsites and company gatherings designed to build camaraderie and strengthen team bonds throughout the year.
  • The opportunity to work remotely, offering flexibility and a better work-life balance.
  • Be part of a mission-driven company that is revolutionizing global tax compliance for digital businesses.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge tax technology and the chance to influence its development.
