Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • As a Virtual Desktop Engineer at Guidehouse Inc., you will be at the forefront of designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and high-performance virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions for critical federal programs. This role is pivotal in ensuring seamless and secure access to mission-critical applications and data for government users, operating within stringent security and compliance frameworks.
- • You will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle management of VDI environments, encompassing deployment, configuration, optimization, and ongoing support. This includes hands-on administration of leading VDI platforms such as Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Citrix Virtual Apps/Desktops, and VMware Horizon, tailored to the unique requirements of federal agencies.
- • A key aspect of your role will involve managing the core components of VDI, including session hosts, master images (golden images), application layering, and user profile management solutions like FSLogix. You will ensure robust profile persistence and a consistent user experience across diverse environments.
- • You will tackle complex technical challenges, troubleshooting issues related to connectivity, application performance, user session stability, and overall system responsiveness. This requires a deep understanding of the VDI stack and its integration with underlying infrastructure.
- • Security and compliance are paramount. You will be instrumental in implementing and maintaining secure configuration baselines, ensuring alignment with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and supporting patching and compliance documentation efforts. Your work will directly contribute to maintaining the integrity and security of sensitive government systems.
- • Automation will be a critical tool in your arsenal. You will leverage scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Azure Automation, Terraform) to streamline provisioning, enhance scalability, optimize resource utilization, and manage costs effectively across VDI deployments.
- • Collaboration is essential. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including networking, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and server engineering, to ensure that VDI solutions are integrated seamlessly, perform optimally, and meet all security requirements.
- • You will play a key role in VDI migration projects, modernization initiatives, and cloud transition efforts. This includes integrating VDI platforms with modern identity and access management solutions, such as Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), and implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA) and Conditional Access policies.
- • Maintaining comprehensive system documentation is a vital responsibility. This includes creating and updating architecture diagrams, operational runbooks, change records, and standard operating procedures to ensure knowledge transfer and operational efficiency.
- • You will provide Tier 2/Tier 3 technical support, acting as an escalation point for complex VDI issues, and will have opportunities to mentor junior engineers, sharing your expertise and fostering team growth.
- • The role demands a proactive approach to system monitoring and performance tuning, utilizing tools like ControlUp, Splunk, Azure Monitor, or Citrix Director to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact users.
- • You will contribute to the adoption of advanced security paradigms, such as Zero Trust architectures, and ensure endpoint devices meet security posture requirements for access.
- • This position offers the chance to work on cutting-edge technologies within a dynamic and secure federal IT landscape, contributing directly to the success of important government missions.
- • Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that federal agencies have reliable, secure, and efficient access to the virtualized resources they need to operate effectively.
