- • Serve as a Yucatec Maya-English telephone interpreter providing real-time verbal interpretation for clients across healthcare, 911, law enforcement, court systems, government agencies, insurance, finance, education, utilities, travel, hospitality, and general business.
- • Render accurate, complete, and culturally appropriate interpretations between Yucatec Maya and English, ensuring no omissions, additions, or distortions of meaning during live calls.
- • Maintain professional, neutral, and objective conduct at all times, even during high-stress or emotionally charged interactions such as end-of-life conversations, pregnancy terminations, and trauma-related emergencies.
- • Respond promptly to on-demand interpreting calls while adhering strictly to industry-specific protocols and terminology in medical, legal, financial, and emergency response contexts.
- • Demonstrate cultural competency by recognizing regional dialects, accents, and linguistic nuances of Yucatec Maya to effectively communicate with Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals.
- • Remain calm and composed under pressure during extended call durations or periods of high call volume, often without scheduled breaks.
- • Follow all client-specific instructions and avoid any direct interaction with LEP callers unless explicitly permitted by the client.
- • Utilize company-provided technology platforms to deliver interpreting services and adapt to future system upgrades that enhance service delivery.
- • Ensure a quiet, secure, and distraction-free home-office environment suitable for confidential and sensitive interpreting sessions.
- • Maintain punctuality and consistent availability during assigned work hours to meet client service demands.
- • Possess strong listening, retention, and note-taking skills to preserve accuracy in rapid, unscripted conversations.
- • Operate a dedicated personal device—such as a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone—running Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iOS, or Android to access interpreting systems.
- • Sustain a reliable high-speed internet connection with minimum download speeds of 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, ping under 300 ms, and jitter under 30 ms.
- • Avoid use of restricted hardware (Huawei) and software (Kaspersky products) in the performance of job duties.
- • Operate standard computer peripherals (keyboard, mouse) for extended periods, with sufficient manual dexterity to type or write as needed.
- • Be physically capable of remaining stationary at a workstation for the majority of the workday and lifting up to 26 lbs if required for equipment setup.
- • Handle moderate noise levels from computer systems, telephony, and audio equipment during daily operations.
- • Participate in company-provided training to develop and refine interpreting skills, including industry-specific terminology and ethical standards.
- • Uphold an inclusive and diverse work environment while respecting the cultural, gender, and linguistic identities of all parties involved in interpreted conversations.
- • Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements for remote work in the United States, including adherence to ASTM and ISO interpreting standards.
