📋 Description

• • Own the stability and continuous improvement of Actian’s Zen embedded database engine (v15 and earlier) that quietly powers mission-critical embedded systems around the globe. Your code will touch millions of endpoints—medical devices, industrial controllers, retail POS terminals—without users ever knowing the database is there.
• • Act as the first line of engineering defense for high-severity customer escalations. When a Fortune-500 OEM reports that a factory line is down because of a Zen deadlock at 3 a.m., you will reproduce, root-cause, patch, and deliver a hot-fix—often within hours.
• • Dive deep into multi-million-line C/C++ code bases spanning Windows, Linux, and real-time embedded RTOS variants. You will trace race conditions in transactional B-tree page splits, memory leaks in custom heap managers, and performance regressions in lock-free cache algorithms.
• • Collaborate daily with Support, QA, and core Development teams in Bangalore and Pune to triage, prioritize, and close the backlog of defects. You will translate cryptic stack traces and memory dumps into crisp engineering action items and clear customer communications.
• • Design and execute targeted regression test suites that prove a defect is fixed and ensure it never resurfaces. You will extend our Python-driven test harness and add new SQL workloads that mimic real customer data patterns.
• • Continuously refactor and harden legacy modules to improve diagnosability. Whether that means adding structured logging, enhancing assert coverage, or introducing lightweight telemetry, you will leave the code safer than you found it.
• • Champion knowledge sharing by writing internal runbooks, brown-bag sessions, and wiki articles so the next engineer can solve a similar escalation in half the time.
• • Influence the roadmap: your frontline exposure to customer pain points will directly shape future Zen releases, from new file-system snapshot APIs to improved replication over low-bandwidth links.
• • Maintain the highest standards of code quality and security. Every check-in you make is subject to peer review, static analysis, and automated CI gates that run thousands of tests on multiple platforms.
• • Thrive in an on-site, collaborative environment where quick hallway conversations can save days of email threads, yet still enjoy the flexibility to deep-dive into a debugger for hours without interruption.
