  • • As a Business Development Representative for Cayenta, a division of Harris Computer Systems Corporation, you will play a pivotal role in expanding the company’s footprint in the utility market by identifying, engaging, and converting prospects into customers for innovative utility management software solutions. Your work will directly contribute to revenue growth and market leadership in a mission-critical sector serving municipalities, local governments, and utility agencies across North America and the Caribbean.
  • • You will be responsible for generating a robust sales pipeline through both inbound lead qualification and proactive outbound prospecting, conducting product demonstrations, negotiating contracts, and representing Cayenta at industry events to build brand awareness and secure new business opportunities. Success in this role means exceeding sales targets by cultivating long-term relationships with key stakeholders and ensuring the company’s solutions remain aligned with evolving utility industry needs.
  • • You will join a dynamic, mission-driven team within Harris Computer Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Constellation Software Inc., which specializes in delivering mission-critical software to public sector clients. Cayenta, as Harris’s utility-focused business unit, is the North American leader in CIS and ERP solutions for medium to large utility clients, providing end-to-end platforms engineered for agility, seamless integration, and operational excellence.
  • • In this role, you will develop deep expertise in the utility sector, refine advanced sales and negotiation techniques, master Salesforce CRM for pipeline management, and gain exposure to strategic marketing-sales alignment. You will also build a professional network across government, municipal, and utility leadership, positioning yourself for long-term career growth in business development, sales leadership, or market strategy within the public sector technology space.
  • • Your day-to-day responsibilities will include: identifying and targeting potential customers in the water utility sector to expand market presence; researching and analyzing utility industry trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics to inform strategy; developing and executing business development plans to generate leads, nurture prospects, and close deals; building and maintaining strong relationships with utility companies, municipalities, local governments, and utility management agencies; conducting compelling product demonstrations and presentations that highlight the value of Cayenta’s software solutions; collaborating with marketing and sales teams to create effective campaigns, sales collateral, and pitch materials; representing the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and events to network and promote offerings; negotiating contracts and agreements that deliver mutual value for clients and Cayenta; staying current on regulatory changes, technological innovations, and industry best practices to ensure solution relevance; managing all lead and opportunity data accurately within Salesforce CRM; and providing regular performance reports, market insights, and activity summaries to the Director of Sales & Marketing and leadership team.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Proven track record in business development, sales, or a similar role with 5+ years of direct experience selling to municipalities and local government.
  • • Demonstrated ability to self-generate leads and build a healthy sales pipeline independently.
  • • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex value propositions clearly.
  • • Strong relationship-building aptitude, with a hunter mindset and proactive, goal-oriented attitude.
  • • Working knowledge of Salesforce CRM is preferred; willingness to travel 50–75% between Canada, the Caribbean, and the US for client meetings and events.
  • • Must hold a current, valid passport and be legally eligible for international travel to Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean (via visa exemption or required visas).
