(Senior) Full-Stack Engineer (Content Platform)

📋 Description

• • Own the end-to-end evolution of AMBOSS’ content platform: transform an unpolished, multi-layered CMS and a nascent content-processing pipeline into a robust, self-service platform that delights internal editorial teams and scales to serve tens of thousands of medical students and clinicians worldwide.
• • Architect and implement solutions for highly complex data structures—think nested trees of multi-dimensional medical content—ensuring lightning-fast retrieval, versioning, and cross-referencing capabilities that underpin every article, question bank item, and clinical guideline.
• • Automate tedious, manual editorial workflows by integrating AI-driven tooling where it adds real value; coach medical editors on how to leverage these new technical capabilities so they can focus on creating world-class educational material instead of wrestling with spreadsheets.
• • Build, test, and iterate on prototypes at speed—whether that’s a new content-import wizard, a real-time collaboration feature, or an AI-assisted tagging engine—validating ideas quickly and shipping incremental improvements that compound into major user impact.
• • Contribute directly to the product roadmap, vision, and technical strategy: synthesize feedback from engineers, product managers, medical editors, and designers into clear, actionable initiatives that balance short-term wins with long-term scalability.
• • Champion engineering excellence across the stack: write clean, pragmatic TypeScript/React code on the front end, robust Node.js services on the back end, and thoughtful database schemas that stand up to the rigors of medical-grade accuracy and compliance.
• • Debug and optimize complex system behaviors—dive deep into performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, or edge-case rendering issues, then surface with clear fixes and preventive measures that keep the platform humming.
• • Collaborate cross-functionally in a hybrid-remote environment: pair-program with teammates in Berlin, whiteboard solutions with medical editors in New York, and run async design reviews with designers in Buenos Aires—traveling to an AMBOSS office roughly every two months for high-bandwidth workshops.
• • Contribute to open-source projects (e.g., Payload CMS) when extending core functionality benefits both AMBOSS and the broader community, while also nurturing our internal engineering culture through lightning talks, brown-bag sessions, and detailed pull-request reviews.
• • Embrace “done is better than perfect”: balance technical debt against business value, ship features that move the needle for learners and clinicians, and iterate continuously based on real-world usage data and editorial feedback loops.
