- • The AI Deployment Engineer role at OpenAI involves working directly with strategic startup customers to ensure safe and effective deployment of AI technology, translating real-world use cases into technical insights that improve model behavior and product quality.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include prototyping and iterating on prompts, agents, and workflow designs; synthesizing feedback for Product and Research teams; building repeatable evaluation tools; and collaborating across engineering, research, and product to drive durable improvements.
- • The team sits at the intersection of customer reality and model quality, acting as trusted advisors to frontier startups while combining technical depth with product judgment to influence OpenAI’s research and product roadmap.
- • In this role, you will gain deep exposure to cutting-edge AI applications, develop expertise in evaluation systems and model behavior analysis, and shape how advanced AI systems evolve through direct impact on research and product development.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong software engineering and AI fundamentals, with experience as a software engineer, ML engineer, data scientist, or equivalent; shipping production systems end-to-end is a strong plus.
- • Experience as a technical founder or engineer at an early-stage startup.
- • Familiarity with or interest in model training pipelines and reinforcement learning.
- • Experience building AI applications, agents, or evaluation systems, with the ability to reason clearly about model behavior in complex workflows.
- • Comfort working directly with highly technical users and translating their challenges into concrete technical signals.
- • Ability to move fluidly between prototyping, debugging, evaluation design, and cross-functional collaboration.
- • Clear communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- • High agency, strong product sense, and a bias toward building durable improvements over one-off fixes.
