- • The AI Deployment Engineer role at OpenAI involves working directly with strategic startup customers to ensure safe and effective deployment of AI technology, translating real-world use cases into technical insights that improve model behavior and product quality.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include prototyping and iterating on prompts, agents, and workflow designs; synthesizing customer feedback into reproducible evaluations and benchmarks; building tools and patterns that raise quality across use cases; and collaborating with research and product teams to influence roadmap decisions.
- • The AI Deployment Engineering team acts as a trusted advisor to frontier startups, combining technical depth with product judgment to bridge customer reality and model quality, operating at the intersection of applied AI and research innovation.
- • In this role, you will develop deep expertise in AI systems evaluation, gain influence over product and research direction through customer-driven insights, and build lasting impact by shaping how advanced AI is deployed and improved in real-world settings.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong software engineering and AI fundamentals, with experience as a software engineer, ML engineer, data scientist, or equivalent; shipping production systems end-to-end is a strong plus.
- • Experience as a technical founder or engineer at an early-stage startup.
- • Familiarity with or interest in model training pipelines and reinforcement learning.
- • Experience building AI applications, agents, or evaluation systems, with the ability to reason about model behavior in complex workflows.
- • Comfort working directly with highly technical users and translating their challenges into clear technical signals.
- • Ability to move fluidly between prototyping, debugging, evaluation design, and cross-functional collaboration.
- • Clear communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- • High agency, strong product sense, and a bias toward building durable improvements over one-off fixes.
