Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Build and deploy an autonomous SDLC pipeline that automates the end-to-end software development lifecycle, using Linear as the state machine and AI models like Claude Code as the execution engine, with sandboxed compute environments, automated code review, and CI/CD feedback loops.
  • • Design and implement internal AI agents and copilots that reduce manual work across engineering and operations—including platform monitoring, automated fix generation, customer issue triage, compliance evidence drafting, PR activity summarization, and on-call assistance for repetitive pattern-matching tasks.
  • • Collaborate directly with engineering and founding team members to identify high-leverage workflows where AI can replace or augment human labor, focusing on impact rather than novelty, and ruthlessly prioritize initiatives based on potential output improvement.
  • • Develop and maintain the evaluation, observability, and guardrail infrastructure for all AI systems deployed in production, ensuring systems that interact with customer data, compliance requirements, or financial workflows are measurable, debuggable, auditable, and safely rollbackable.
  • • Own the full lifecycle of AI-powered systems: from service deployment and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) implementation to instrumentation, monitoring, and long-term operational maintenance—without relying on handoffs.
  • • Work directly with product and engineering leads to uncover unstructured opportunities for AI automation, rather than waiting for prioritized backlogs, and drive projects from concept to production with minimal oversight.
  • • Ensure all AI systems adhere to production-grade reliability standards, with clear metrics on cost, latency, accuracy, and failure modes, and avoid chasing trending models if simpler, proven tools deliver better outcomes.
  • • Integrate AI capabilities into existing healthcare data systems including FHIR servers, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3, and Snowflake, ensuring seamless compatibility and secure handling of patient data in compliance-sensitive environments.
  • • Continuously refine AI workflows based on real-world usage, feedback from team members, and operational metrics, optimizing for sustained performance and reduced human burden across the organization.
  • • Act as the first AI Engineer at Metriport, shaping the team’s approach to AI integration, establishing best practices, and setting the technical and cultural foundation for future hires in this space.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Shipped real, production-grade systems with LLM agents at the core—not demos or prototypes—with deep experience in eval frameworks, prompt versioning, tool use, retry logic, and cost control.
  • • Strong full-stack engineering ability with proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js, Python, AWS, and SQL, capable of building, deploying, and owning end-to-end services.
  • • Demonstrated systems-thinking mindset: ability to identify automatable workflows from observing customer support calls, PR reviews, or operational tasks, and design AI solutions to execute them.
  • • Entrepreneurial mindset with high ownership, measuring success by what is unblocked rather than tasks completed, and a bias toward solving problems in days, not weeks.
  • • Located in San Francisco or the Bay Area, or willing to relocate.
  • • Experience with healthcare data systems, compliance standards (HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST), or AI workflows in early-stage startups is a bonus.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive equity + compensation package
  • • Full family Platinum health, dental, and vision insurance
  • • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching
  • • Flexible work from home or in-office options
  • • Complimentary healthy lunches when working in-office, with breakfast and dinners available as needed
  • • Quarterly company off-sites
  • • MacBook provided by the company
  • • Unlimited PTO with trust-based time management
  • • Direct impact in a small, senior team with no bureaucracy and full autonomy to ship
