This role is for a visionary Analytics Engineer who is ready to elevate data science and engineering to unprecedented levels by building AI systems that fundamentally transform how data analysis is performed. Forget rudimentary text-to-SQL tools or basic dashboards; your mission will be to architect and implement AI agents capable of conducting comprehensive analyses autonomously. This includes formulating hypotheses, writing and executing complex queries, interpreting intricate results, and generating insightful, actionable recommendations.
• You will be instrumental in making our entire data warehouse AI-readable, developing the semantic layer, context, and retrieval infrastructure that enables any AI system, whether internal or product-facing, to query Perplexity's data with unparalleled accuracy and reliability. This involves creating robust data models and metadata that serve as a foundation for intelligent data access.
• A significant part of your role will involve automating the data lifecycle through the creation of self-healing pipelines. These intelligent systems will proactively detect, diagnose, and resolve data quality issues before they impact downstream processes or users, ensuring data integrity and system stability. You will also explore and implement automated dbt model generation and validation, further streamlining our data modeling practices.
• You will architect and build the foundational infrastructure that empowers our data team to operate at a significantly amplified scale, effectively multiplying their output and impact. This involves creating reusable components, scalable tools, and standardized patterns that can be adopted across the data team and the wider company, fostering an AI-native data culture.
• The data team at Perplexity is already leveraging AI in its daily workflows, but we recognize a vast, untapped potential. You will be a key player in realizing this potential, transforming initial successes into world-class, scalable systems, pioneering new tools, and establishing an AI-native approach to data that not only makes our team exceptional but also pushes the boundaries of the entire industry.
• Your responsibilities will encompass accelerating the AI-native data workflow by transforming existing successful AI applications into repeatable, scalable systems and adoption-ready patterns. You will build AI agents that go beyond simple SQL queries to perform end-to-end data science tasks, including data exploration, hypothesis generation, query execution, result interpretation, and the creation of actionable recommendations.
• You will own the full lifecycle of these AI-driven data solutions, from identifying the highest-leverage problems and prototyping with Large Language Models (LLMs) to iterating on accuracy and user experience, and finally to production deployment and ongoing monitoring. This includes developing AI-powered experiment analysis agents that can interpret A/B test results, flag statistical anomalies, and provide clear ship/no-ship recommendations to product teams.
• A crucial aspect of this role is transforming the data team into a product team. You will build internal data products that stakeholders across the company can utilize daily, effectively replacing ad-hoc data requests with intuitive, self-serve AI interfaces. This shift will democratize data access and empower business units to derive insights more efficiently.

🎯 Requirements

• 6-8 years of experience in data science, analytics engineering, data engineering, or a closely related field, with a proven track record of hands-on data work.
• Deep expertise in SQL, including experience in designing and building robust data models within data warehouses.
• Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining data pipelines, familiarity with tools like dbt, and a strong understanding of data quality challenges.
• Proficiency in Python for building and shipping production-ready tools, including experience with APIs and service deployment.
• Genuine passion for and hands-on experience with AI and LLMs, including building agents, RAG systems, or AI-powered workflows.
