• • We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate General Counsel, Employment to join our dynamic Legal and Compliance team. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the lead advisor on all employment-related matters, providing strategic counsel to internal stakeholders across the organization. You will be instrumental in managing employment litigation, working closely with external counsel, and ensuring our employment practices align with our company’s rapid growth and evolving legal landscape. Reporting to our VP, Deputy General Counsel, you will be the go-to expert for labor and employment law, safeguarding Komodo Health’s interests while fostering a positive and compliant work environment.
• • *Key Responsibilities and Impact:**
• • **Strategic Employment Law Advisory:** Provide expert legal guidance on a broad spectrum of labor and employment law issues. This includes, but is not limited to, employee relations, wage and hour compliance, compensation and benefits, performance management strategies, disciplinary actions, leave administration (FMLA, ADA, etc.), reasonable accommodations, recruitment best practices, restrictive covenants, and the engagement of contingent workers. Your advice will be crucial in navigating complex situations and mitigating risk.
• • **Partnership with People Operations:** Collaborate closely with our People Team (HR) to support the entire employee lifecycle. This involves offering legal insights on day-to-day HR operations, policy implementation, and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws. Your partnership will be key to enabling our People Team to effectively manage our growing workforce.
• • **Policy and Agreement Development:** Take the lead in drafting, reviewing, and updating all employment-related policies and agreements. This includes maintaining and enhancing our comprehensive employee handbook, developing and refining variable compensation plans, and ensuring all legal documentation is current, compliant, and reflective of Komodo Health’s culture and business objectives.
• • **Global Employment Support:** While this role is focused on California, you will also provide essential support for our global employment matters. This includes advising on employment practices in key international locations such as France, India, and the United Kingdom, and managing contingent worker arrangements through Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs), coordinating with local counsel as needed.
• • **Process Evaluation and Scaling:** Proactively evaluate our existing employment-related processes to identify areas for improvement and scaling. As Komodo Health continues its rapid growth, you will be responsible for ensuring our legal and compliance infrastructure can efficiently support increased headcount and evolving business needs.
• • **Workplace Investigations and Dispute Resolution:** Lead and support internal workplace investigations, ensuring thoroughness, fairness, and compliance. You will also play a key role in managing and resolving employment disputes, working towards amicable and legally sound resolutions.
• • **Proactive Legal Monitoring and Advice:** Stay abreast of the latest developments in employment legislation, regulations, case law, and government enforcement activities. You will analyze these changes and provide proactive, strategic advice to relevant stakeholders, anticipating potential impacts and recommending necessary adjustments to our practices.
• • **Employment Compliance Oversight:** Ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations. This includes developing and implementing compliance programs, conducting audits, and addressing any compliance gaps identified.
• • **Training and Development:** Develop and deliver engaging training programs on various employment law topics for our internal stakeholders, including managers and the People Team. Empowering our leaders with knowledge is critical to fostering a compliant and respectful workplace.
• • **Corporate Transaction Support:** Provide critical employment law support during corporate transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. This will involve conducting due diligence, advising on employment-related risks and opportunities, and assisting with integration or separation activities.
