Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Drive the commercial heartbeat of Deriva Energy’s 6.5 GW renewable portfolio by owning every transmission and market-analysis workflow that turns raw grid data into bankable investment decisions. You will be the single point of accountability for congestion, curtailment, and deliverability forecasts that underpin greenfield siting, M&A due-diligence, PPA pricing, and tax-equity financing.
  • • Architect and maintain production-cost models in PLEXOS, GridView, PROMOD, or UPLAN that ingest terabytes of nodal LMPs, generator retirements, and transmission topologies. Your scenario libraries will quantify basis risk across CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, SPP, MISO, ISO-NE, and NYISO, enabling the Investment Committee to green-light billion-dollar projects with confidence.
  • • Commission, scope, and QA/QC third-party transmission studies from tier-one consultants, ensuring every deliverable meets investment-grade standards. You will translate arcane ISO interconnection reports into concise risk memos that flag upgrade-cost surprises, network-constraint impacts, and deliverability hurdles—then craft mitigation playbooks (alternative POIs, phased CODs, strategic network upgrades) that protect IRR.
  • • Translate complex regulatory developments—FERC Order 2023 interconnection reforms, state clean-energy mandates, evolving capacity-market rules—into clear commercial signals. You will author policy briefs, file written comments, and occasionally testify at PUC workshops to shape market design in ways that enhance Deriva’s asset values.
  • • Build and refresh long-term price curves for Energy, Capacity, and REC products across multiple ISO footprints. Integrating supply-demand fundamentals, policy drivers, and infrastructure build-out assumptions, you will arm Origination with defensible forecasts that anchor offtake negotiations and hedge strategies.
  • • Provide real-time analytical firepower to the trading desk. Your Day-Ahead congestion scenarios, FTR/CRR/TCR bid strategies, and curtailment forecasts will optimize revenue and minimize balancing-cost exposure for a multi-gigawatt operating fleet.
  • • Establish modeling standards, peer-review protocols, and documentation templates that ensure consistency, transparency, and rapid onboarding as the team scales from 5 to 15 analysts. You will mentor junior engineers and analysts, accelerating their path to independent execution.
  • • Collaborate cross-functionally with Origination, Asset Management, Engineering, and EPC teams to align transmission assumptions across financial models, engineering designs, and operational forecasts—eliminating costly surprises during construction and COD.
  • • Travel up to 25 % to attend ISO stakeholder meetings, site visits, and industry conferences, forging relationships with transmission owners, consultants, and policy makers that compress development timelines and reduce non-development risk.
  • • Present findings to senior leadership, rating-agency analysts, and tax-equity partners in boardroom-quality decks that distill complex power-market dynamics into clear go / no-go recommendations.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 3-6 years of experience in power-market modeling, transmission planning, or quantitative energy analysis within an IPP, utility, ISO, or top-tier consulting firm
  • • Expert-level proficiency in at least one production-cost tool (PLEXOS, GridView, PROMOD, UPLAN) and strong SQL / Python data-handling skills
  • • Deep working knowledge of at least two major ISO markets (CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, SPP, MISO, ISO-NE, NYISO) including interconnection procedures, congestion drivers, and capacity constructs
  • • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Economics, or related quantitative field; advanced degree preferred
  • • Demonstrated ability to translate technical study results into concise, decision-ready recommendations for non-technical stakeholders

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive base salary plus annual performance bonus tied to portfolio growth and trading P&L
  • • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with company match from day one
  • • Flexible hybrid schedule (3 days in NASCAR Plaza office, 2 days remote) and 15 PTO days in year one
  • • Annual professional-development stipend ($5,000) for conferences, certifications, and advanced software training
