Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the full lifecycle of backend features that power Alma’s post-claim workflow. You will design, build, and ship services that ingest and interpret every response from insurance payers—whether it’s a denial, adjustment, or payment—so our 20,000+ mental-health providers get paid accurately and on time.
- • Write clean, test-driven Python (Django) code that scales horizontally on AWS. You’ll model complex claims data in MySQL, craft resilient APIs, and implement idempotent background jobs that process millions of transactions per month without losing a cent.
- • Collaborate daily with Product Managers, Designers, and Customer Success to translate provider pain points into precise technical requirements. You’ll run lightweight experiments, instrument metrics, and iterate quickly so new reconciliation logic reaches production in days, not weeks.
- • Build internal tooling that gives our Operations team superpowers. Think bulk reprocessing dashboards, automated discrepancy detectors, and audit trails that satisfy both HIPAA and SOC-2 auditors.
- • Champion observability: you’ll add structured logs, distributed tracing, and alerting thresholds so the team spots anomalies before providers do. When something breaks at 2 a.m., you’ll be the calm engineer who fixes root causes, not symptoms.
- • Contribute to Alma’s evolving service-oriented architecture. You’ll help decompose the monolith, define API contracts, and introduce patterns (CQRS, event sourcing, feature flags) that let us ship safely while growing 4× year-over-year.
- • Mentor junior engineers through pair programming and thoughtful code reviews. You’ll raise the bar for readability, performance, and security while fostering a blameless culture that celebrates learning.
- • Stay curious about the healthcare payments landscape. Whether it’s a new X12 format, ERA specification, or payer rule change, you’ll research, prototype, and roll out updates that keep Alma compliant and competitive.
- • Influence the roadmap. Your insights from production data will guide prioritization, ensuring we invest in the highest-impact improvements for provider cash flow and member experience.
🎯 Requirements
- • 2+ years of backend development experience with Python and Django (or similar web framework) in a production environment
- • Proficiency in relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL) including schema design, query optimization, and transactional integrity
- • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant ETL or batch-processing systems
- • Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform (EC2, SQS, Lambda, RDS)
- • Nice-to-have: familiarity with healthcare data formats (X12 EDI 837/835), HIPAA compliance, or financial reconciliation workflows
🏖️ Benefits
- • 100 % remote-first culture with quarterly in-person gatherings and a generous home-office stipend
- • Competitive salary plus equity in a high-growth company backed by top-tier investors
- • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and mental-health coverage for you and your dependents
- • Flexible PTO, 12 company holidays, and a company-wide winter break to recharge
