📋 Description

  • The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the research and analysis division of The Economist Group, is seeking a dynamic and commercially driven Business Development Manager based in Hong Kong to significantly expand its presence across the APAC region. This pivotal role is designed for a proactive, outbound sales professional who thrives on creating new business opportunities, engaging with key decision-makers, and managing the entire deal lifecycle from initial contact through to successful closure. You will be instrumental in driving the growth of EIU's research and data-led solutions, empowering governments, multinational corporations, and financial institutions to make more informed decisions in an increasingly complex global landscape. By providing critical insights into geopolitical, economic, and regulatory shifts, you will help clients navigate challenges and chart a course for success, leveraging EIU's esteemed global reputation for excellence and integrity.
  • In this comprehensive 360° sales role, you will be responsible for managing a defined APAC territory, focusing on generating new business through persistent and high-quality outbound prospecting. Your day-to-day activities will involve consultative engagement with senior business leaders, strategy teams, and data-adjacent functions, understanding their unique challenges and positioning EIU's sophisticated offerings as the solution. You will need to qualify and meticulously progress opportunities, often involving multiple stakeholders and extended sales cycles, demonstrating commercial curiosity and a deep understanding of consultative, insight-led selling. A key aspect of the role involves confidently engaging with senior executives, tailoring your communication to resonate with diverse buyer personas, and building trusted, long-term client relationships. You will leverage Salesforce and other modern sales tools with discipline to manage your pipeline, provide accurate forecasting, and drive deal progression, ensuring consistent delivery against ambitious revenue targets. The role demands a self-starter mentality, enabling you to operate autonomously across the vast and diverse APAC region, requiring regional travel as needed to foster client relationships and explore new markets.
  • You will be joining The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a respected research and analysis division within The Economist Group. EIU is dedicated to providing unparalleled insight, analysis, and data that equip clients with the knowledge to make critical decisions. The Economist Group itself is an organization committed to driving progress, fostering innovation, independence, and rigor across its diverse businesses, which include The Economist magazine, Economist Impact, Economist Intelligence, and Economist Education. These entities collectively uphold a global reputation for excellence and integrity, serving subscribers and clients in 170 countries. You will be part of a team that values analytical rigor, global expertise, and evidence-based insights, contributing to a mission that empowers individuals and organizations to make sense of complex global shifts.
  • This role offers significant exposure and responsibility, providing an exceptional opportunity to deepen your expertise in information and data-led selling over time. Within your first 90 days, you will build a strong understanding of EIU's value propositions, including its research, intelligence, and data-led solutions, and develop a clear strategic view of your APAC territory, identifying priority accounts and target buyer personas. You will demonstrate disciplined use of Salesforce for accurate forecasting and activity tracking from the outset, and launch consistent, high-quality outbound prospecting campaigns utilizing sales engagement and AI tools to create early pipeline. By the six-month mark, you will have closed initial new-business deals, showcasing your ability to manage opportunities from inception to contract signature, and will own a healthy, well-structured pipeline with clear close plans and realistic forecasts. You will be actively progressing multiple mid-to-late stage opportunities, engaging effectively with senior decision-makers and relevant data or analytics stakeholders, while maintaining strong CRM hygiene and forecasting accuracy. By the end of your first year, you will be consistently meeting or exceeding revenue targets for the APAC region, closing complex, consultative deals that highlight the full value of EIU's offerings, and building a reputation with clients as a trusted commercial partner. You will maintain a predictable pipeline, contribute to territory strategy, and be recognized as a high-impact contributor with potential for broader responsibilities within the organization.
