Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Join Column as a foundational member of our Business Operations team and play a pivotal role in shaping the company's trajectory for the next decade. This is a unique opportunity to build the operational backbone of a rapidly growing financial technology company, directly influencing our ability to scale and innovate.
  • • As a Business Operations leader, you will act as the "General Manager" for critical strategic and operational initiatives. This involves deep dives into a wide array of challenges, from defining product strategy and optimizing pricing models to streamlining compliance operations and developing internal tool platforms.
  • • You will have the chance to experience direct Profit & Loss (P&L) ownership for specific products or projects, working collaboratively with senior leadership to propel Column's business forward.
  • • Your responsibilities will encompass owning the strategy and operational execution for key distribution channels and products, ensuring their success and alignment with overall company objectives.
  • • You will be instrumental in designing and implementing our most critical scaling initiatives. A significant focus will be placed on optimizing the speed and efficiency with which we onboard and support new customers, a crucial element for our growth.
  • • A key aspect of this role involves driving decisions around "build vs. buy" strategies for new tooling and systems essential for automation and scale. You will collaborate closely with our engineering team to define precise design requirements for internal "build" projects, ensuring they meet our operational needs.
  • • You will actively support the go-to-market strategy and commercialization efforts for both current and future state products. This includes contributing to pricing strategies and margin optimization to ensure profitability and market competitiveness.
  • • Partnering with our Finance team will be essential. You will maintain a keen understanding of the financial health of our product lines, identifying key metrics to monitor, and proactively highlighting relevant trends to inform strategic decisions and maintain a competitive edge.
  • • You will be an integral part of the annual strategy and company goal-setting process, contributing insights and driving alignment across the organization.
  • • Functioning as the "chief project manager" for all these initiatives, you will be responsible for owning timelines, driving accountability, and ensuring successful execution across cross-functional teams.
  • • This role demands a proactive, "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude. We value individuals who are scrappy, creative, and possess zero ego when it comes to getting hands-on to build a successful business.
  • • While familiarity with the banking and fintech industries is preferred, it's not a strict requirement. However, a strong interest and a commitment to becoming an expert in this dynamic space are absolutely essential.
  • • You will be at the forefront of transforming the financial services landscape by simplifying the complex banking supply chain. Column is a bank and a software company built from the ground up, providing technology-forward banking solutions that eliminate the need for numerous vendors and middleware providers.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven company that is fundamentally changing how financial technology is built and deployed, making it safer, more transparent, and less costly for builders and developers.
  • • You will be part of a founding team that has deep experience in scaling successful companies like Plaid, Square, Meta, Blend, and Affirm, bringing a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record to Column.
  • • The position is based in our San Francisco office, requiring 3-4 days per week in-person, with relocation support available for the right candidate.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 7+ years of experience in strategy and business operations within a high-growth environment; prior experience at a top-tier management consulting firm is strongly preferred.
  • • Proven ability to quickly assess new situations, solve complex problems, and architect scalable solutions.
  • • Demonstrated experience in influencing and managing multiple stakeholders with diverse priorities, effectively driving commitment to shared goals.
  • • Exceptional project management skills with a hyper-organized approach, including the ability to coordinate efforts across multiple teams and comfortably juggle numerous projects and priorities.
  • • A scrappy, "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude, demonstrating creativity, a strong work ethic, and a collaborative, ego-free approach to building a business.
  • • A strong interest in becoming an expert in the banking and fintech industries is a must, even if prior direct experience is limited.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans, with options that are 100% covered by Column for employees and their dependents.
  • • Generous family planning and fertility benefits through a partnership with Carrot, including up to $20,000 in reimbursement for qualified expenses.
  • • Up to $2,000 (post-tax) monthly rent subsidy for employees living within 2 miles of Column's San Francisco office.
  • • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) options for pre-tax savings on medical and dependent care expenses.
  • • 401k plan, including self-directed brokerage options for investment flexibility.
  • • A flexible time-off policy, empowering employees to take the time they need to relax and recharge.
  • • 100% paid parental leave: 16 weeks for birth mothers, 12 weeks for primary caregivers, and 8 weeks for secondary caregivers.
  • • Up to $4,500 in annual reimbursements for backup childcare needs.
  • • Catered lunches and dinners for employees working in the San Francisco office.
  • • Commuter benefits, including paid transportation to and from the office.
  • • Regular team-building events and an annual offsite to foster camaraderie and strategic alignment.
