- • Serve as a Cantonese-English Video-Phone Interpreter, facilitating real-time verbal interpretation between Cantonese and English speakers across critical industries including healthcare, 911, law enforcement, court, government, insurance, finance, and education.
- • Conduct interpretation sessions via video and audio platforms using a dedicated personal device such as a laptop, desktop, tablet, or smartphone, ensuring accurate, concise, and culturally appropriate translation of spoken content.
- • Maintain strict neutrality and objectivity during all interpreting sessions, avoiding omissions, additions, or personal commentary, particularly in high-stakes or emotionally sensitive contexts such as end-of-life conversations, pregnancy termination, or emergency calls.
- • Adhere to ASTM and ISO-certified interpretation protocols and industry-specific terminology in medical, legal, financial, and public safety settings.
- • Respond promptly to on-demand interpreting requests, maintaining punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours while managing high call volumes and extended call durations without breaks when necessary.
- • Participate in mandatory paid professional training and continuous development programs to enhance interpreting skills and stay current with LanguageLine’s technology and service standards.
- • Operate within a secure, quiet home-office environment free from background noise or distractions, ensuring confidentiality and professionalism during all client interactions.
- • Type data accurately and efficiently on assigned devices during interpretation sessions to fulfill essential job functions.
- • Demonstrate cultural competency by recognizing regional dialects, accents, and cultural nuances to effectively communicate with Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals.
- • Remain calm and composed during stressful or incoherent interactions, especially during emergency 911 or crisis calls, while upholding company service standards.
- • Follow all client-specific instructions and protocols, refraining from direct interaction with LEP individuals without explicit client permission.
- • Utilize a headset for prolonged periods and maintain a stationary position in front of a computer and webcam for the majority of the workday.
- • Ensure compliance with all technical requirements, including high-speed internet (minimum 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload, ≤300 ms ping, ≤30 ms jitter) and approved operating systems (Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iOS, Android).
- • Avoid use of restricted hardware (Huawei) and software (Kaspersky products) in the performance of job duties.
- • Demonstrate commitment to an inclusive, diverse, and equitable work environment while respecting the rights and dignity of all individuals served.
- • Maintain professional demeanor at all times, using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions in both Cantonese and English.
- • Be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet client demand across time zones.
- • Understand and comply with all legal and ethical obligations related to confidentiality, data security, and employment authorization in the United States.
