- • This Certified Coder - Emergency Medicine role at Washington University in St. Louis is a remote position responsible for reviewing medical record documentation to assign accurate billing codes (CPT and ICD-10) for emergency medicine services, ensuring compliance and proper reimbursement.
- • Day-to-day duties include analyzing patient records to identify diagnoses and procedures, coding evaluations and management using CPT and ICD-10 standards, consulting with physicians to clarify documentation and obtain signatures, supporting coding team members with terminology and policy guidance, and preparing case reports for billing follow-up.
- • The role is part of the university’s health information management or revenue cycle team, contributing to accurate clinical documentation and financial integrity within a leading academic medical institution.
- • The incumbent will develop expertise in emergency medicine coding, deepen knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT systems, enhance collaboration with clinical staff, and gain experience in documentation improvement initiatives that support both compliance and revenue optimization.
🎯 Requirements
- • Must hold one of the following credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or an AAPC specialty-specific coding credential valid for the department).
- • Previous coding experience or equivalent to an associate’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- • Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems is preferred.
