đź“‹ Description

  • • Machinify Inc., a leader in healthcare intelligence, is seeking an exceptional Chief of Staff to support its Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This pivotal role is designed to act as a significant force multiplier for the entire technology organization, operating at the critical intersection of strategy, operations, and execution. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the CTO's vision is not only clearly articulated but also translated into concrete priorities, disciplined follow-through, and ultimately, measurable outcomes. You will serve as the essential connective tissue, maintaining alignment and accountability across a fast-paced and dynamic engineering department.
  • • The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in deeply technical environments, ideally having previously served as a Chief of Staff or in a similar operational leadership capacity supporting a CTO or VP of Engineering. This role demands the ability to fluidly transition between a wide spectrum of tasks and responsibilities, demonstrating adaptability and a comprehensive understanding of both technical and operational landscapes.
  • • **Operational Excellence & Planning:** A core responsibility will be to drive the operational rhythm of the technology organization. This includes owning the cadence of quarterly and annual planning cycles, encompassing OKR development, budget formulation, headcount and workforce planning, and strategic resource allocation. You will be tasked with rigorously tracking progress against established goals, proactively identifying and surfacing potential risks at an early stage, and ensuring that critical commitments are met without quietly drifting. Your primary function will be to ensure that objectives are achieved, not by performing all tasks directly, but by architecting and implementing robust systems and accountability structures that keep a large technical organization on track and performing at its peak.
  • • **Strategic Partnership & Executive Leverage:** You will function as a trusted thought partner to the CTO, providing critical support in synthesizing complex technical and business information into clear, actionable recommendations. A key aspect of this role involves preparing the CTO for high-stakes engagements, including board meetings, interactions with executive peers, and discussions with external stakeholders. You will also represent the CTO’s perspective and voice in situations where their direct presence is not possible. This includes drafting key communications, shaping compelling narratives around the company's technical strategy, and ensuring the CTO's valuable time is optimally allocated to the highest-leverage activities.
  • • **Cross-Functional Alignment:** This position acts as a crucial bridge, fostering seamless collaboration between the engineering department and other key business functions. You will coordinate closely with product management, finance, HR, and other departments to ensure that the technology organization's strategic plans are fully integrated with overarching company-wide priorities. Your role will involve facilitating effective decision-making processes across diverse teams, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks, and driving consensus and alignment on initiatives that transcend traditional organizational boundaries.
  • • **Financial Stewardship:** A significant component of this role involves partnering with the finance department to manage the technology budget comprehensively, from inception to completion. This includes developing sophisticated financial models, meticulously analyzing various trade-offs, and ensuring that the organization is making wise investments and operating efficiently within its allocated financial resources. This requires a keen understanding of financial principles and their application within a technology context.
  • • **Driving Execution and Accountability:** You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining clear lines of accountability throughout the technology organization. This involves implementing performance metrics, conducting regular reviews, and ensuring that teams are delivering on their commitments. Your efforts will directly contribute to the predictability and reliability of the engineering function.
  • • **Information Synthesis and Communication:** You will be adept at gathering information from various sources, synthesizing it into concise and insightful summaries, and communicating key takeaways to different audiences, from engineering teams to executive leadership. This ensures that everyone is informed and aligned on critical technical and operational matters.
  • • **Process Improvement:** Continuously identify opportunities to enhance existing processes within the technology organization, focusing on efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability. This could involve refining development workflows, improving communication channels, or optimizing resource management practices.
  • • **Project and Program Oversight:** While not directly managing projects, you will provide oversight and support to ensure key strategic initiatives are progressing as planned, identifying risks, and facilitating the removal of roadblocks. This ensures that critical projects stay on track and deliver their intended value.
  • • **Onboarding and Integration:** Assist in the onboarding of new engineering leaders and key hires, ensuring they are quickly integrated into the team and understand the operational and strategic landscape.
  • • **Knowledge Management:** Help establish and maintain systems for knowledge sharing and documentation within the technology organization, ensuring critical information is accessible and up-to-date.
  • • **Special Projects:** Undertake special projects as assigned by the CTO, which may involve market research, competitive analysis, or strategic planning exercises that require deep dives into specific areas.
