📋 Description

• • Manage complex auto and property litigation cases involving serious bodily injury, property damage, disputed damages with excess exposure, complex coverage issues, declaratory judgment actions, and aggravated liability.
• • Handle PIP/MP cases with severe or catastrophic injuries, serious legal questions, extra-contractual exposure, or regulatory penalties to the association.
• • Oversee subrogation litigation, analyzing legal recovery theories, affirmative defenses, and applicable laws and doctrines.
• • Develop and execute litigation strategy for defense or settlement, ensuring compliance with state laws and regulations.
• • Serve as primary liaison between USAA, internal counsel, external defense counsel, and members to ensure concierge-level service and proactive communication.
• • Clearly document litigation strategy, budgets, investigations, evaluations, negotiations, settlements, and trial decisions.
• • Represent USAA at mediations, case conferences, and trials.
• • Review, audit, and approve legal fees and expenses to ensure cost-effectiveness and adherence to guidelines.
• • Partner with and direct law firm vendors to ensure timely resolution of lawsuits while enforcing Defense Counsel Litigation Handling Requirements.
• • Hold law firm vendors accountable for compliance with USAA’s litigation standards and performance expectations.
• • Synthesize legal and claims analyses to identify root causes and provide actionable recommendations that influence litigation outcomes and business solutions.
• • Advise management and counsel on complex legal and claims issues, providing strategic insight and guidance.
• • Support team members by reviewing and formulating litigation plans and serving as a resource for escalated, unusual cases.
• • Operate independently with minimal supervision, acting as a subject matter expert for less experienced colleagues.
• • Apply advanced knowledge of property and casualty (P&C) insurance policies and state-specific claims litigation laws.
• • Ensure all litigation activities align with written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures.
• • Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks stemming from business activities and litigation exposure.
• • May serve as assistant to the Director of Litigation Operations, supporting special projects and developing or conducting training.
• • Be prepared to assume responsibilities of the Director of Litigation Operations as needed, demonstrating leadership and operational continuity.
• • Ensure members receive high-quality service from both internal teams and external law firm vendors.
• • Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for documentation and reporting.
• • Travel occasionally for business needs, with remote eligibility across the continental U.S. for qualified candidates.
• • Individuals within 60 miles of a USAA office are required to work on-site three days per week.
