  • • The Coder I is a key member of the Coding Team at Denver Health, responsible for reviewing medical record documentation to abstract and assign diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers for statistical classification and reimbursement purposes, playing a vital role in ensuring accurate billing and compliance with coding standards.
  • • Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting or exceeding coding productivity and accuracy standards (minimum 95% accuracy), following hospital and departmental procedures, ensuring patient information confidentiality, completing required coding training, participating in educational meetings, maintaining current coding credentials, and assisting in the creation and updating of desk procedures.
  • • Denver Health is an integrated, high-quality academic health care system and Colorado’s primary safety-net provider, operating a Level I Trauma Center, acute care hospital, emergency response system, and numerous community health centers, committed to serving underserved populations with mission-driven values of respect, belonging, accountability, and transparency.
  • • In this role, the individual will develop proficiency in medical coding guidelines, gain hands-on experience with Epic and coding software, strengthen critical thinking and decision-making skills, and build a foundation for career advancement in health information management through tuition assistance, professional development, and internal career pathways.
