- • Coordinate daily responsibilities of inpatient coding and support staff to ensure timely and accurate coding for reimbursement and data collection purposes.
- • Perform prebill review and audit of inpatient medical records to correctly capture final DRG assignments for each case.
- • Analyze clinical data of inpatients, including current treatments and past medical history, to identify gaps in physician documentation.
- • Report trends and recommend improvement opportunities in coding accuracy and clinical documentation practices.
- • Verify coding and abstracting accuracy through quantitative and qualitative reviews of medical records.
- • Communicate directly with physicians and healthcare providers to validate diagnoses, clinical indicators, and prompt documentation improvements using AHIMA/ACDIS best practice query principles, either verbally or in writing.
- • Adhere strictly to industry coding standards set by CMS, AHIMA, AHA, AAPC, and AMA guidelines.
- • Develop and deliver educational materials to train physicians, coders, and other healthcare providers on clinical documentation improvement and the importance of complete, accurate health record documentation.
- • Train and audit entry-level coders or coders transitioning to new coding disciplines.
- • Implement and maintain computer systems used in the Health Information Management Department to support coding operations.
- • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and institutional requirements related to medical coding and health information management.
- • Support organizational goals of excellence and patient-centered care by promoting accurate data capture that impacts clinical outcomes and financial reimbursement.
- • Work remotely as specified in the job title, with primary operational focus on inpatient coding activities across ChristianaCare’s hospital network in Newark, DE, Wilmington, DE, and Elkton, MD.
🎯 Requirements
- • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification or equivalent certification/degree
- • College credits in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- • Three years of coding experience in a Health Information Management Department or equivalent
- • Experience with implementing and maintaining computer systems
