- • At OpenAI, we are at the forefront of artificial intelligence, dedicated to ensuring that general-purpose AI benefits all of humanity. Our Compliance team is integral to this mission, fostering a culture of unwavering integrity and ensuring adherence to the complex web of regulatory and legal requirements that govern our groundbreaking work. We operate as a highly collaborative unit, working hand-in-hand with our Legal, Security, People, Finance, and operational teams. Our collective goal is to build and scale robust compliance programs that not only support OpenAI's ambitious mission but also proactively mitigate risks in the dynamic and rapidly evolving AI landscape.
- • As a Compliance Program Manager, you will be a pivotal force in constructing and scaling OpenAI’s compliance program. This role is about translating intricate requirements into practical, actionable processes, driving the day-to-day execution of these programs, and continuously refining how we detect, assess, and mitigate compliance risks. You will be instrumental in managing the operational backbone of our compliance initiatives, encompassing critical areas such as managing disclosures, overseeing training programs, tracking investigations, implementing and monitoring controls, and generating comprehensive reports for leadership.
- • A significant aspect of this role involves partnering cross-functionally to ensure our compliance program remains effective and adaptable as the company experiences rapid growth. This is a unique opportunity to innovate within compliance operations, leveraging the cutting-edge capabilities of AI technologies, including our own products like ChatGPT and agentic workflows, to enhance efficiency, improve outcomes, and elevate the user experience for internal stakeholders.
- • Your responsibilities will span the entire compliance program lifecycle. You will be tasked with building and scaling compliance program operations by designing and implementing repeatable, efficient workflows for intake, triage, escalation, documentation, and follow-up. A key focus will be on continuous improvement, adapting these processes as risks evolve and business needs change.
- • You will own program execution, which involves creating detailed project plans, defining clear milestones, driving cross-functional action items to completion, and ensuring that critical initiatives, such as policy rollouts, training launches, controls implementation, and tooling improvements, are delivered on time and to a high standard.
- • Supporting disclosures and investigations processes will be a core function. This includes managing intake and tracking, coordinating effectively with various stakeholders, meticulously maintaining documentation, and ensuring timely resolution of issues and diligent follow-through on remediation efforts.
- • Driving compliance training and communications is another vital area. You will help develop, launch, and measure the effectiveness of training and awareness programs, ensuring they are clear, practical, and directly aligned with identified risks.
- • You will play a key role in monitoring and assessing compliance risk. This involves partnering with internal stakeholders to proactively identify potential gaps, conducting thorough internal assessments, recommending appropriate corrective actions, and rigorously tracking the implementation of remediation plans.
- • Furthermore, you will support audit and regulatory readiness by assisting with responses to inquiries, audits, and examinations. This includes maintaining essential evidence, preparing reporting decks, and ensuring all program artifacts are up-to-date and readily accessible.
- • Developing robust metrics and reporting capabilities is crucial. You will build dashboards and establish recurring reporting mechanisms for leadership, and potentially the Audit Committee, to provide clear insights into risk areas, overall program health, and the progress of key initiatives.
- • Staying current on evolving requirements is paramount. You will track relevant regulatory developments and industry best practices, translating them into actionable updates for our compliance program. Throughout all these activities, you are expected to leverage OpenAI’s advanced products, including ChatGPT and agentic workflows, to significantly reduce workload, enhance results, and upgrade the overall user experience within the compliance function.
- • This role reports directly to the Chief Compliance Officer and is based in our San Francisco, CA office. We operate on a hybrid work model, requiring three days in the office per week, and offer relocation assistance to support new employees joining our team.
