  • • Sleeper Technologies, Inc., a prominent leader in the fantasy sports and real money gaming sector, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Corporate Accountant to join our dynamic team in New York City. This is a contract-to-hire position, offering a unique opportunity to significantly impact our core accounting functions within a fast-paced, high-growth, and regulated environment. As a key member of our finance department, you will be instrumental in ensuring the financial accuracy and operational excellence that are critical to our success.
  • • In this pivotal role, you will oversee the company’s primary accounting operations, managing a team of part-time staff responsible for daily activities such as accounts payable and other transactional processing. Your responsibilities will extend to leading the crucial month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. You will be the central point of contact for external auditors, NetSuite technology consultants, and will play a vital role in interfacing with regulatory bodies, particularly for our rapidly expanding prediction markets business, which operates under CFTC regulations as a Futures Commission Merchant (FCM).
  • • Reporting directly to the Vice President of Compliance and Finance, you will collaborate closely with the treasury team, as well as cross-functional teams including engineers, data scientists, and operations personnel. This collaborative approach is essential for maintaining seamless financial operations and supporting the company's strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in US GAAP, ideally with CPA certification, coupled with advanced proficiency in Excel and a minimum of five years of hands-on experience with NetSuite for bookkeeping and reporting.
  • • Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass a wide range of critical accounting tasks. You will prepare complex journal entries, including those related to revenue recognition, user activity, and various accruals and amortization schedules. A significant part of your role will involve performing month-end bank and general ledger account reconciliations, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of our financial data. You will take full ownership of the general ledger, ensuring all entries are supported by robust documentation.
  • • Furthermore, you will manage the end-to-end accounts payable process, from invoice review and coding to obtaining approvals and maintaining strong vendor relationships. A unique aspect of this role is ensuring compliance with the daily accounting and reporting obligations specific to our CFTC-regulated FCM entity, which is integral to our prediction markets business. You will also contribute to payroll accounting and handle equity-related accounting entries, providing comprehensive financial support.
  • • Partnering with external auditors will be a key function, where you will be responsible for preparing audit schedules, providing necessary documentation, and responding to inquiries during the annual audit. You will also play a proactive role in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust internal accounting controls and documenting accounting processes. Ensuring adherence to US GAAP and internal accounting policies will be paramount.
  • • Continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls will be a core objective. You will identify areas for enhancement, implement best practices, and ensure all procedures are well-documented. Additionally, you will work directly with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on critical financial analysis and strategic planning initiatives, contributing valuable insights to inform business decisions.
  • • Sleeper offers a unique environment where you can truly own and shape the accounting function. This role provides high visibility and fosters close partnerships with company leadership. We cultivate a collaborative, fast-paced, flexible, and entrepreneurial culture, emphasizing quality, continuous learning, and individual contribution. We believe in lean teams, minimal management layers, and a strong aversion to bureaucracy, allowing every team member to make a significant impact. From accountants to designers and customer success to compliance personnel, we are united in our mission to build the best environment for connecting people over sports.
