This pivotal role involves leading research, coordinating strategy, and overseeing the administration and development of products and programs at an enterprise level, ensuring alignment with our commitment to long-term profitable growth and superior customer service.
  • • **Develop and Disseminate Best Practices:** You will be responsible for creating, documenting, and communicating best practices and comprehensive underwriting guidance to the entire company. This includes translating complex underwriting principles into actionable strategies that empower our branch teams and maintain consistency and quality across all operations.
  • • **Serve as a Technical Subject Matter Expert:** Act as a go-to technical expert within Corporate Underwriting, providing authoritative responses to inquiries regarding your assigned LOBs or business segments. Your deep understanding of coverages, regulations, and underwriting criteria will be crucial in resolving complex issues and ensuring adherence to company standards.
  • • **Analyze Performance and Drive Profitability:** Conduct in-depth analysis of premium and loss data, alongside other key performance indicators, on a monthly and quarterly basis. Identify underlying trends impacting results, evaluate the effectiveness of current strategies, and proactively make data-driven recommendations to leadership for improvements needed to meet company goals and enhance underwriting profitability.
  • • **Innovate and Refine Product Offerings:** Play a key role in recommending and developing new product ideas, as well as reviewing and revising existing coverage language. You will partner with leadership to assess the cost-benefit of market opportunities and product initiatives, contributing to the evolution of our offerings to meet changing market demands and client needs.
  • • **Strategic Planning and Market Analysis:** Provide critical analysis and research to support leadership in developing both short-term and long-term strategies. • • **Foster Cross-Departmental Collaboration:** Act as a strategic partner for other corporate departments, ensuring seamless integration of underwriting strategies with marketing, claims, legal, and IT functions. Coordinate efforts to ensure all aspects of product development and implementation are aligned and efficient.
  • • **Continuous Learning and Knowledge Sharing:** Maintain expert-level knowledge of state regulations, coverages, operational processes, underwriting criteria, and system applications. Actively participate in industry seminars, pursue continuing education, and share your expertise by preparing articles, white papers, and underwriting bulletins.
  • • **Develop and Deliver Training Programs:** Prepare and teach underwriting workshops and seminars for the underwriting team. Assist in training staff, act as an instructor at schools or meetings, and contribute to the professional development of our underwriting talent across the organization.
  • • **Represent Corporate Underwriting:** Represent Corporate Underwriting and EMC on various committees and events as appropriate, serving as a knowledgeable ambassador for our underwriting expertise and strategic direction.
  • • **Support Branch Operations and Complex Risks:** Act as a technical resource for branch offices, offering guidance on underwriting issues and strategy for your assigned LOBs. Evaluate complex underwriting risks, provide analysis, and guide branch underwriting teams in determining the acceptability of business, resolving issues, and approving accounts that exceed branch authority.
  • • **Influence Pricing and Reinsurance Strategies:** Recommend pricing strategies by discussing underwriting philosophy, policy forms, rating approaches, and underwriting techniques. Provide responses to complex scenario questions, interpret guidelines, and assess coverage, limits, and pricing. Determine the need for and place facultative reinsurance for complex accounts.
  • • **Manage Vendor and Consultant Relationships:** Work with third-party vendors and manage consultant relationships with internal partners to ensure the effective integration of products based on enterprise needs, optimizing our operational capabilities and product delivery.
  • • **Contribute to Program Effectiveness:** Provide evaluation and input regarding the effectiveness of departmental programs and projects, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the underwriting function.
  • • **Embrace a Collaborative and Impactful Culture:** Join a team that values collaboration, innovation, and making a real impact. You'll have the opportunity to grow, contribute, and gain experience that matters in a supportive environment where we strive to be caring leaders, close partners, and responsive experts, always supporting each other to do our best work.
