📋 Description
- • As a Corporate Representative at Kin Insurance, you will be at the forefront of our litigation defense efforts, playing a pivotal role in safeguarding the company's interests and ensuring accurate representation of our practices and policies during legal proceedings. This position is crucial for maintaining the integrity of our claims handling, underwriting intent, and overall business operations, especially as Kin continues its rapid growth and expands its presence across multiple jurisdictions. You will serve as Kin’s designated corporate witness, delivering binding testimony in first-party property claims, thereby directly influencing litigation outcomes and contributing to operational excellence.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will be multifaceted and critical to our legal strategy. A primary duty involves serving as Kin’s designated corporate witness, providing 30(b)(6) testimony in first-party property litigation matters. This requires a deep understanding of our operations, enabling you to testify authoritatively on topics such as claim handling procedures, policy interpretation, the intent behind our underwriting decisions, corporate policies, and general business operations. You will conduct thorough cradle-to-grave reviews of litigated claim files, meticulously examining all systems data, file documentation, and internal communications to build a comprehensive understanding of each case. This detailed review process is essential for preparing accurate and defensible testimony.
- • Collaboration will be a cornerstone of your role. You will partner closely with Litigation Adjusters, Claims Legal teams, and external outside counsel to develop effective testimony strategies. This partnership is vital for identifying potential litigation strengths and exposures, ensuring that our legal defense is robust and well-informed. You will be responsible for maintaining expert-level knowledge of Kin’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), staying current with state-specific insurance regulations, and thoroughly understanding the “Four Corners” of the insurance contract relevant to each case. This deep knowledge base is fundamental to providing accurate testimony and upholding Kin’s legal and regulatory compliance.
- • Preparation for depositions and trials will be a significant part of your workflow. This involves comprehensive document review, extensive collaboration with internal stakeholders to gather necessary information, and participation in mock examinations to refine your testimony and ensure you are fully prepared to represent Kin professionally. A key aspect of this role is ensuring the consistency of your testimony across all matters, aligning it with Kin’s historical positions and brand values to maintain a unified corporate voice. Furthermore, you will serve as the closing adjuster on litigated matters, diligently monitoring executed releases, dismissals, and all claim closure activities to ensure a smooth and compliant conclusion to legal proceedings.
- • Beyond these core duties, you will support additional litigation-related projects and operational initiatives as business needs evolve. This proactive engagement ensures that Kin’s litigation strategy remains agile and responsive to changing market conditions and legal landscapes. Your contributions will directly impact Kin’s ability to navigate complex legal challenges, protect our customers, and uphold our commitment to fairness and integrity in the insurance industry.
- • Kin Insurance is a pioneering force in the homeowners insurance market, dedicated to making insurance simpler, more affordable, and better for homeowners, particularly in regions facing climate risks and rising costs. Founded in 2016 and operating as a remote-first employer, Kin leverages data, technology, and empathetic human support to build clear, fair, and confidence-inspiring products. Our commitment to disciplined growth, exceptional customer satisfaction, and long-term sustainability has earned us numerous accolades, including recognition as one of Built In Chicago's Best Places to Work, Forbes' America's Best Startup Employers, and Great Places to Work Certified. We are building a company where individuals can perform meaningful work with tangible impact, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and ownership.
- • This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Kin’s mission by directly influencing litigation outcomes and enhancing our operational efficiency. You will gain invaluable experience in complex first-party property litigation, working alongside experienced legal professionals and claims experts. Success in this role means becoming a trusted and reliable corporate witness, ensuring consistent and well-prepared testimony that aligns with Kin’s policies and legal strategy. You will play a key part in progressing litigation matters efficiently, identifying risks, clarifying claim handling decisions, and supporting defensible outcomes, ultimately contributing to the company's strong unit economics, profitability, and excellent customer ratings. By taking ownership of meaningful work and improving our operational processes, you will help move Kin’s mission forward and make a real difference for both Kinfolk and the homeowners we serve.
