📋 Description

• • The Counsel, Intellectual Property role at Zillow Group is a pivotal position within the Legal and Compliance team, serving as the primary in-house patent counsel responsible for protecting Zillow’s intellectual property, enabling responsible innovation, and managing legal risk across its technology, real estate, and media portfolio.
• • Day to day, the role involves leading patent strategy and portfolio management, guiding inventors through disclosure processes, managing outside counsel for patent drafting and prosecution, overseeing patent operations (docketing, maintenance, annuities), serving as the primary point of contact for open-source license questions, and providing product-facing counsel on AI-enabled features including data, IP, and model-use considerations.
• • The role sits within Zillow Group’s Legal and Compliance team, specifically the Intellectual Property, Marketing & AI (IPAM) team, which collaborates closely with Product, Engineering, AI, and business stakeholders in a dynamic, innovation-driven environment.
• • In this role, the individual will develop deep expertise in patent strategy for software and AI-related inventions, build scalable IP and open-source governance processes, influence cross-functional innovation practices, and gain exposure to cutting-edge AI and IP legal challenges at a nationally recognized, innovative technology company.
