- • Embark on a crucial role as a remote Cytogenetic Analyst at Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (Labcorp), a leader in life sciences dedicated to improving health and well-being. This position is pivotal in advancing diagnostic capabilities, focusing on the intricate analysis of genetic material to identify chromosomal abnormalities that impact patient health.
- • As a remote analyst, you will leverage cutting-edge digital imaging technology to perform complex cytogenetic analyses, primarily focusing on Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) and, to a lesser extent, traditional chromosome analysis. Your expertise will be instrumental in interpreting digitized metaphase spreads and images, contributing directly to accurate diagnoses for oncology patients.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve meticulous examination of digitized images of metaphase spreads, identifying and characterizing chromosomal abnormalities. This requires a deep understanding of cytogenetic principles and the ability to apply them to visual data.
- • You will be responsible for reviewing test requisitions, extracting essential patient and clinical information to contextualize your analysis. This ensures that your findings are clinically relevant and support informed decision-making by healthcare providers.
- • A key aspect of the role is the accurate summarization of test results using the standardized International System for Cytogenetic Nomenclature (ISCN). Mastery of this nomenclature is essential for clear and consistent reporting of findings.
- • You will be tasked with distinguishing between normal and abnormal test results, a critical step that directly impacts patient care pathways. This requires a keen eye for detail and a thorough knowledge of genetic variations.
- • The role demands proficiency in monitoring, operating, and troubleshooting specialized equipment, software, and applications integral to the digital cytogenetics workflow. This includes platforms like Metasystem (Neon) and Applied Spectral Imaging (ASI), ensuring the integrity and efficiency of the analytical process.
- • You will be empowered to make independent technical decisions regarding testing procedures and problem-solving, demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expertise.
- • Reporting accurate and timely test results is paramount, underpinning Labcorp's commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. Your contributions will directly influence patient outcomes and treatment strategies.
- • You will proactively report any issues or challenges encountered to the general supervisor, fostering a collaborative environment for continuous improvement.
- • You will actively participate in discussions with the general supervisor regarding the development and review of protocols and policies, contributing to the evolution of best practices within the department.
- • Providing constructive feedback to senior technologists on technical matters will be encouraged, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development across the team.
- • Strict adherence to all company policies and procedures is expected, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
- • Maintaining a safe and compliant remote work environment is a fundamental responsibility, aligning with Labcorp's commitment to safety and regulatory standards.
- • This position is unique in that it is entirely analysis-based, with no requirement for wet lab or bench work. Your focus will be purely on the interpretation of digital data, offering a distinct and modern approach to cytogenetics.
- • The work schedule for this role is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, providing a consistent schedule within a remote setting.
- • You will be expected to have a dedicated, HIPAA-compliant home office space and a minimum internet speed of 100 mb/sec via a wired connection, ensuring a secure and stable remote work environment.
- • This role offers the opportunity to work with a leading healthcare diagnostics company, contributing to life-saving research and patient care, all from the comfort of your home.
