This pivotal role is central to our mission of delivering high-performance, accessible cloud infrastructure globally. As the primary stakeholder and owner for all facets of the data center site, you will be instrumental in ensuring its 24/7 reliability and seamless operation. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact within a rapidly expanding technology company, contributing directly to Vultr's growth and the future of cloud infrastructure.
- • You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the data center, ensuring that all systems and infrastructure are functioning optimally. This includes proactive identification and resolution of potential issues, maintaining a high level of uptime, and implementing best practices to enhance operational efficiency. Your leadership will be crucial in refining and improving existing processes and procedures, driving continuous improvement across the site.
- • A core component of this role involves the hands-on installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of critical data center hardware. This encompasses servers, network switches, rack power distribution units (PDUs), and all associated cabling. You will be the go-to expert for ensuring the physical infrastructure is robust, reliable, and ready to support our growing customer base.
- • You will be the first responder to all alerts, alarms, and service tickets pertaining to data center operations. This requires a keen ability to quickly assess situations, diagnose the root cause of outages or performance degradations, and coordinate effective resolution efforts. Timely escalation of complex issues to higher-level support teams or management will be essential to minimize downtime and maintain service integrity.
- • Upholding stringent security policies and procedures is paramount. You will be responsible for safeguarding data center assets, preventing unauthorized access, and ensuring strict compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards. This includes regular audits and the implementation of security best practices.
- • Collaboration with facility staff is key to maintaining the physical integrity of the data center. You will work closely with them to address any challenges related to power, cooling, security, or other building management systems. Furthermore, you will coordinate the delivery and integration of any new services obtained from the site, ensuring they are seamlessly incorporated into our operational framework.
- • A critical aspect of your role will be the creation and meticulous maintenance of comprehensive documentation. This includes updating our Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems, detailing data center configurations, documenting operational procedures, and developing clear operational guidelines. This documentation will serve as a vital resource for the team and for future expansion.
- • This position demands a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks that could impact data center operations. You will be expected to develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules, conduct regular system checks, and stay abreast of emerging technologies and potential threats.
- • You will play a key role in capacity planning, ensuring that the data center has the necessary resources to meet current and future demands. This involves monitoring resource utilization, forecasting future needs, and making recommendations for upgrades or expansions.
- • Contributing to the development and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans will be an important part of your responsibilities, ensuring the resilience of our infrastructure.
- • You will be the primary point of contact for any third-party vendors or contractors working within the data center, ensuring their work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Vultr's standards.
- • This role requires a strong understanding of network architecture and connectivity, ensuring that our data center is optimally connected to Vultr's global network.
- • You will be responsible for managing inventory of critical hardware and spare parts, ensuring that necessary components are readily available to minimize repair times.
- • The ability to troubleshoot complex hardware issues, including server components, will be essential. This includes managing hardware vendor relationships for RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) and in-warranty repairs.
- • You will contribute to the overall strategic planning for Vultr's data center footprint, providing insights and recommendations based on your operational experience.
