- • Lead the people side of tem's most technically complex team, the ML engineers who build Rosso, the AI-powered engine for pricing, forecasting, and optimising energy transactions.
- • Build a high-performing ML team through hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development, establishing clear operating rhythms and succession plans.
- • Own the team's operating systems including sprint cadences, incident review, model monitoring feedback loops, and prioritisation processes to ensure consistent performance.
- • Act as a sounding board for ML engineers, enabling technical excellence without assuming technical authority, and drive collaboration with the Rosso Engineering Manager.
- • Represent the team internally and externally, champion tem's culture in a fully remote environment, and contribute to the ML community through recruiting and engagement.
- • Work in a Series B startup environment with global expansion goals, where transparency, efficiency, and sustainability are redefining the energy market through AI-native infrastructure.
- • Help scale a product (RED) that has already facilitated thousands of business customers and billions in energy transaction value since launch.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience managing ML engineers or scientists (not just software engineers) across junior to staff levels, with sufficient understanding of the ML lifecycle and core disciplines including forecasting, optimisation, pricing, and classical ML to manage credibly.
- • Strong people development track record: effective 1:1s and performance conversations that move people forward, address underperformance, build progression frameworks, and coach capability across career stages.
- • Experience building and owning team operating systems: prioritisation frameworks, sprint cadences, incident review processes, and feedback loops that enable consistent performance in technically complex teams.
- • Strong hiring instinct for ML roles: ability to define the bar, build competitive pipelines, and attract top talent who have other options.
- • Experience managing a technically diverse team: comfortable holding substantive conversations across different ML problem types and helping multi-disciplinary teams prioritise and operate without being the expert in any single domain.
- • Experience in a startup or high-growth environment: comfortable with ambiguity, able to operate effectively when not everything is figured out, and ready to go beyond textbook people-management.
