Full Job Description

šŸ“‹ Description

  • • Shape the future of Sonesta’s global portfolio as the Design Manager who translates brand vision into award-winning guest experiences. You will own the end-to-end design strategy for new-build hotels, major renovations, and adaptive-reuse conversions, ensuring every property tells a cohesive Sonesta story while meeting rigorous operational and financial targets.
  • • Act as the single point of contact between corporate Architecture, Design & Construction (AD&C) and external owners, franchisees, architects, interior designers, purchasing agents, and general contractors. You will review drawing packages, specifications, FF&E schedules, and finish boards for compliance with brand standards, ADA, life-safety codes, and Property Improvement Plans (PIPs).
  • • Translate complex architectural and engineering documents into actionable guidance for non-technical stakeholders. You will red-line plans, host virtual design charrettes, and travel to sites (ā‰ˆ20 %) to conduct pre-renovation assessments, mid-construction inspections, and post-opening punch walks, always looking for ways to improve cost efficiency and guest delight.
  • • Develop and continuously refine prototypical room layouts, public-area concepts, and back-of-house workflows for each Sonesta brand tier—from luxury resorts to extended-stay suites. Your layouts will balance brand signature moments with local market flair, ensuring rapid scalability across North America and beyond.
  • • Build and maintain a living library of brand-approved materials, finishes, lighting, furniture, fixtures, and equipment. You will benchmark new products, negotiate national purchasing agreements, and pilot sustainability initiatives such as low-VOC finishes, energy-efficient lighting, and modular casegoods.
  • • Author clear, concise design guidelines, master specifications, and brand standard updates that empower franchisees and managed-property teams to execute with confidence. You will deliver quarterly webinars and create visual reference decks that demystify compliance requirements and inspire creative solutions.
  • • Drive cross-functional alignment by partnering with Operations, Revenue Management, Marketing, Procurement, and Legal. You will translate guest-experience insights into design briefs, validate ROI assumptions, and ensure every dollar invested yields measurable RevPAR uplift and guest-satisfaction gains.
  • • Manage a portfolio of 25–40 concurrent projects in Smartsheets, maintaining Gantt charts, risk registers, and milestone dashboards. You will flag scope creep, budget overruns, or schedule slippage early and facilitate rapid resolution through collaborative problem-solving.
  • • Champion a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. You will mentor junior designers, conduct post-mortems, and share best practices across the AD&C team, elevating our collective craft and reinforcing Sonesta’s reputation for design-forward hospitality.
  • • Uphold Sonesta’s GUEST People Standards—Greet, Understand, Engage, Satisfy, Thank—by modeling integrity, respect, and servant leadership in every interaction, whether negotiating with a high-profile ownership group or coaching a property-level project coordinator.

šŸŽÆ Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from a CIDA-accredited program; NCIDQ certification strongly preferred
  • • Minimum 3 years of hospitality-focused design experience, including prior work with hotel brands on new-build or renovation projects
  • • Proven ability to manage multiple geographically dispersed projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines and budget constraints
  • • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office; hands-on experience with Smartsheets, MS Project, or ServiceNow
  • • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to influence senior executives, franchisees, and creative partners alike

šŸ–ļø Benefits

  • • Competitive base salary of $85,000–$100,000 plus annual performance bonus
  • • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance with Health Savings Account and company match
  • • 401(k) retirement plan with generous company match, educational assistance, and paid parental leave
  • • Hotel discounts worldwide, company-paid life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and a suite of voluntary coverages (critical illness, accident, hospital indemnity)
