📋 Description

• Own end-to-end design across all critical customer-facing surfaces including product interface, website, blog, marketing campaigns, and physical or IRL experiences.
• Partner directly with GTM and growth teams to ensure every customer, candidate, and community touchpoint meets turbopuffer’s standard of craft and consistency.
• Evolve and protect the visual identity of turbopuffer, ensuring it remains unmistakable across all platforms while preserving its unique blend of hardcore functionality and whimsical personality.
• Translate brand principles into tangible design outcomes that balance technical precision with playful expression—no surface is too small or too large to impact.
• Work closely with engineering teams, treating design review as an opportunity to tweak Tailwind classes and contribute directly to implementation—not just hand off mocks.
• Ship high-fidelity, production-ready designs independently, often moving between brand, product, web, and marketing without waiting for handoffs or approvals.
• Embrace a scrappy, do-it-yourself mindset where the line between ideation, design, and shipping is intentionally blurred.
• Contribute to the tone and aesthetic of developer-focused branding, ensuring turbopuffer resonates with technical audiences through both utility and personality.
• Act as the primary visual steward of the company’s identity from day one, setting the foundation for future design systems and standards.
• Collaborate with the CEO directly, with autonomy to make design decisions that align with company values: overstep > understep, show > tell, complexity is earned, and making stuff easy to react to.
• Use tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI-assisted development environments to accelerate design-to-code workflows and reduce friction between design and engineering.
• Prioritize shipping over perfection, valuing progress and iteration over polished but delayed deliverables.
• Maintain a deep understanding of what makes developer tools feel trustworthy, fun, and human—balancing professionalism with irreverence.
• Be the first designer at turbopuffer, shaping culture, process, and visual language from the ground up without existing templates or legacy systems.
• Reject the notion that marketing assets are beneath your role; every asset, no matter how small, contributes to the brand’s voice and perception.
• Thrive in ambiguity, where priorities shift rapidly and design ownership extends beyond screens into how the company shows up in the world.

🎯 Requirements

• Craft – work is useful, polished, and specific
• Range – clear spike in brand, product, web, marketing, or design engineering, with curiosity to cross into others
• Scrappy – comfortable blurring lines between ideas, design, and final ship
• Technical fluency – comfortable reviewing and tweaking Tailwind classes
• Independent – able to ship work autonomously, even using AI tools like Claude Code
• No preference for handing off mocks over getting things into production
