Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Pluralis Research is at the forefront of a revolutionary AI development paradigm known as Protocol Learning, a fully decentralized method for training and deploying AI models. This innovative approach democratizes AI capabilities, making them accessible to individuals rather than exclusively to large, well-resourced corporations. By aggregating compute power from a diverse network of participants and incentivizing their contributions, while simultaneously preventing any single entity from controlling the entirety of a model's weights, Pluralis is forging a genuinely open and collaborative pathway towards achieving frontier-scale AI. As the Developer Relations Lead, you will serve as the critical technical conduit, translating Pluralis's groundbreaking research into a language that resonates with and empowers the broader Machine Learning and systems community.
  • • Your day-to-day responsibilities will be multifaceted and deeply engaging, focusing on making complex technical concepts accessible and compelling. You will be tasked with transforming dense, novel research papers—covering areas such as distributed training, communication-efficient model parallelism, and fault-tolerant optimization—into clear, understandable content. This will involve writing insightful blog posts, crafting engaging Twitter threads, and producing detailed explainers that demystify our work for ML engineers and systems researchers. You will also be responsible for producing technical walkthroughs that illuminate our training runs, architectural decisions, and experimental results, effectively turning intricate research into compelling narratives. A significant part of your role will involve owning and managing Pluralis's technical voice across key community platforms. You will be the primary point of contact for technical engagement on Discord and Twitter/X, actively participating in discussions with researchers and engineers within the ML, distributed systems, and decentralized compute ecosystems. Your presence and credibility will be vital in technical forums such as Hacker News, Reddit (specifically r/MachineLearning and r/LocalLLaMA), and relevant Discord servers, fostering a strong community connection.
  • • Furthermore, you will represent Pluralis at prominent ML conferences, including ICLR, ICML, and NeurIPS. In these settings, you will deliver talks, conduct live demonstrations of our technology, and cultivate valuable relationships within the research community. Enhancing the experience for GPU contributors is another key area; you will be responsible for improving their onboarding process and communication channels, developing comprehensive documentation, user guides, and troubleshooting resources to ensure a seamless contribution experience. Your role will also extend to multimedia content creation, where you will produce and edit video content, such as paper walkthroughs, research explainers, and tutorials for contributors, and manage the company's YouTube channel. You will also support partnership initiatives by creating co-marketing materials and coordinating announcements with ecosystem partners, and assist the broader team with investor and press-facing technical content when required. Finally, you will be instrumental in tracking key metrics across all engagement channels, running experiments to optimize for discoverability, and identifying strategies to maximize engagement. You will own the reporting on community growth, content performance, and the contributor pipeline, providing data-driven insights to guide our strategy. You will also actively monitor developments in decentralized training, open-weight model releases, and frontier model advancements, feeding crucial market intelligence back to leadership to ensure Pluralis remains at the cutting edge of the field.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the technical narrative of a pioneering AI research company. You will gain deep insights into the cutting edge of decentralized AI development and contribute directly to making advanced AI accessible to a wider audience. By bridging the gap between complex research and practical understanding, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant community around Pluralis's innovative technology. You will have the chance to develop your skills in technical communication, community building, and strategic content creation within a fast-paced, research-driven environment. The autonomy and responsibility inherent in this position will allow you to drive significant impact and grow professionally as a leader in developer relations within the AI space.
  • • The team at Pluralis Research is comprised of world-class, deeply technical ML researchers, backed by prominent investors like Union Square Ventures. The company is driven by a strong ideology: to create a better world by preventing a handful of massive corporations from monopolizing AI model development, access, and release, thereby avoiding massive economic capture. This mission is pursued through Protocol Learning, which is viewed as the only plausible approach to achieving this goal. The team is distributed across Australia and the United States, fostering a remote-first culture that values flexibility and global collaboration. You will be working alongside individuals with backgrounds from leading tech companies such as Google, Amazon, Atlassian, and Anthropic, contributing to a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • • This role is ideal for someone who thrives on translating complex technical concepts into engaging narratives and building strong communities around innovative technologies. You will be instrumental in demystifying Protocol Learning and making Pluralis Research's groundbreaking work accessible to a global audience of researchers, engineers, and AI enthusiasts. The opportunity to influence the direction of decentralized AI and contribute to a more open and equitable AI future is significant. You will learn to navigate the nuances of technical community engagement, develop sophisticated content strategies, and gain invaluable experience in a rapidly evolving field. The impact of your work will directly contribute to the growth and adoption of Pluralis's technology, solidifying its position as a leader in decentralized AI development. You will also have the chance to hone your skills in video production, event representation, and data-driven strategy optimization, making this a comprehensive and rewarding career opportunity.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the proven ability to translate complex technical systems (e.g., fault-tolerant distributed training stacks) into accurate, clear, and engaging explanations for diverse audiences, from PhD students to builders.
  • • A strong track record of producing technical content that resonates and is widely shared, including blog posts, conference talks, Twitter threads, or YouTube videos, demonstrating 5+ years of experience in DevRel, technical marketing, developer education, or a research-adjacent communication role.
  • • Deep understanding of ML concepts such as model parallelism, pipeline parallelism, gradient compression, and distributed optimization, or the demonstrated ability to quickly acquire this knowledge, enabling credible engagement with ML researchers and engineers.
  • • Active presence and native understanding of technical communities such as ML Twitter, research Discords, and Hacker News, with an awareness of key voices and a proven ability to earn credibility in these technical spaces.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Equity-heavy package offering meaningful ownership in a seed-stage company.
  • • Competitive base salary, reflecting the caliber of talent sought, with a team composed of individuals from Google, Amazon, Atlassian, and Anthropic.
  • • Remote-first culture with a flexible work environment, allowing collaboration with a distributed team across Australia and the United States, including opportunities for in-person collaboration quarterly.

About Pluralis Research Ltd

Pluralis Research develops a novel approach to training large AI models called “Protocol Learning.” Instead of traditional centralized or open-source models, their method enables decentralized, multi-participant model training where no single party ever holds a full copy of the model weights. This makes models “unextractable” and supports collaborative ownership, allowing value from model usage to flow back to contributors. They aim to democratize access and innovation in AI, reduce dependency on large tech firms, and create a sustainable, open ecosystem for foundation model development.
