📋 Description

• Lead the design, implementation, and scaling of People Operations systems and workflows to support Cohere’s globally distributed workforce across Toronto, New York, San Francisco, London, and Paris.
• Architect and oversee the HRIS and operational tooling ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration, data integrity, and scalability across all regions and functions.
• Build and manage shared services and helpdesk infrastructure to deliver efficient, consistent employee support at scale, reducing friction across employee lifecycle touchpoints.
• Own end-to-end onboarding and employee lifecycle operations, creating standardized, automated processes that enhance experience and compliance for remote and office-based employees.
• Develop operational analytics and reporting frameworks that provide actionable insights to People leadership, driving data-informed decisions around workforce planning, retention, and productivity.
• Redesign fragmented operational processes into elegant, scalable systems that minimize manual work and maximize leverage through automation and AI-driven solutions.
• Lead, build, and mentor a high-performing People Operations team, establishing clear roles, career paths, and performance metrics aligned with company growth goals.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Leadership to ensure People Operations infrastructure supports enterprise-grade needs for a fast-scaling AI company.
• Evaluate and implement modern tools and platforms that reflect AI-native operational best practices, prioritizing efficiency, security, and user experience over legacy systems.
• Champion a culture of operational excellence by eliminating inefficiencies, reducing redundancies, and continuously optimizing processes without relying solely on headcount growth.
• Maintain compliance with local labor regulations across all countries where Cohere employs staff, ensuring policies and systems are adaptable to regional requirements.
• Serve as a strategic advisor to People leadership on operational capacity, scalability bottlenecks, and long-term infrastructure investment needs.
• Ensure the People Operations function operates with speed, precision, and innovation, mirroring the company’s mission to scale intelligence and deliver magical AI experiences.
• Act as a key driver in shaping the operational DNA of a modern, global People organization during a critical growth phase with unprecedented momentum and visibility.
• Build systems that are future-proof, modular, and capable of supporting rapid international expansion without proportional increases in operational overhead.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in core People Operations roles
• Directly managed and built People Operations teams/functions
• Experience operating in hypergrowth environments during periods of rapid scale
• Supported globally distributed organizations across multiple countries and regions
• Strong systems thinking, operational design, and scalable infrastructure expertise
• Highly automation and AI-minded, with a passion for building elegant solutions to messy operational problems
