- • The Director, Strategic Partnerships (Education and Community Engagement) leads strategy development and implementation to leverage education endowments and extend the impact of National Geographic Society’s mission in the Western U.S. and possibly Canada, driving geographic literacy and community engagement through education-focused initiatives.
- • Day to day, the role involves developing multi-year plans, goals, metrics, and budgets; identifying and managing strategic partnerships with private/public organizations, nonprofits, and educator networks; stewarding education endowments; convening advisory groups; overseeing metrics and impact reporting; representing the division in cross-organizational meetings; and supporting revenue-raising efforts through philanthropy and grants.
- • The Education and Community Engagement (ECE) division of National Geographic Society amplifies the work of explorers into classrooms and communities, fostering an Explorer Mindset and helping learners understand geography’s role in human and natural systems, operating at the intersection of science, storytelling, education, and conservation.
- • In this role, the person can develop expertise in strategic partnership cultivation, endowment management, impact measurement, and cross-sector collaboration while influencing national geography education strategy and contributing to sustainable conservation outcomes through education and community engagement.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in education, policy, management or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred
- • 10+ years of work experience in education and/or nonprofit sectors, including a minimum of five years of senior management experience
- • Strong knowledge of the U.S. education landscape with demonstrated experience building partnerships and facilitating collaboration across sectors and organizations
- • Experience building strategic partnerships with external organizations and individuals that drive reach and impact
- • Proven record of working collaboratively across a broad range of stakeholders to achieve strategic goals
- • Ability to build and maintain complex relationships and navigate a large, heavily matrixed organization
