- • Lead and inspire multiple engineering squads (8-12 engineers) who build the systems that put capital into the hands of America’s small-business owners—restaurants adding a second location, contractors hiring their first employee, retailers stocking up for holiday. Your leadership turns code into opportunity.
- • Own the full delivery lifecycle—from discovery through deployment—across product streams that touch underwriting, direct sales, business development, operations, finance & accounting, and legal. You will translate complex business needs into clear technical roadmaps that ship on time and delight users.
- • Cultivate an inclusive, high-trust culture where engineers feel safe to experiment, fail fast, and grow. You will run 1:1s, career-growth plans, performance reviews, and quarterly OKRs that turn ambitious individuals into unstoppable teams.
- • Partner daily with two product managers and scrum masters to balance technical debt, new features, and platform reliability. You will negotiate scope, manage risk, and ensure every sprint delivers measurable value to the business.
- • Champion engineering excellence: define coding standards, lead architecture reviews, and enforce automated testing, CI/CD, and observability practices. You will personally review pull requests and occasionally roll up your sleeves to debug gnarly .NET Core services or optimize an Angular front-end.
- • Drive the adoption of AI-powered development tools—GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT—to accelerate delivery without sacrificing quality. You will run internal guilds and brown-bag sessions to upskill the team on prompt engineering and responsible AI use.
- • Collaborate with the VP of Engineering on long-term technical strategy, capacity planning, and budget ownership. You will present quarterly business reviews to the executive team, translating velocity metrics into ROI and customer-impact stories.
- • Foster cross-functional relationships with Underwriting, Sales, and Operations to ensure our microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architecture evolve in lockstep with regulatory requirements and market demands.
- • Mentor senior engineers into tech-leads and first-time managers. You will create learning paths, sponsor conference attendance, and build a succession pipeline that keeps Fora Financial resilient as we scale.
- • Maintain a “remote-first” mindset: run effective virtual stand-ups, design sessions, and retros; champion asynchronous communication; and ensure every teammate—regardless of time zone—feels connected to our mission.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years managing high-performing software engineering teams in a cloud-native, product-centric environment; experience with .NET Core, Java, Python, or similar modern stack.
- • Demonstrated success delivering complex, user-facing features from conception to production in an Agile/Scrum setting; strong grasp of microservices, REST APIs, event-driven architecture, and CI/CD best practices.
- • Proven ability to attract, hire, and retain diverse engineering talent; experience building inclusive cultures and structured career-growth programs.
- • Exceptional stakeholder management—comfortable translating business jargon into technical requirements and vice versa; history of partnering with product, finance, legal, and operations teams.
- • Authorization to work for any employer in the United States; this role is remote but not eligible for visa sponsorship.
