- • As a Field Application Scientist based in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, you will be a critical technical liaison, dedicated to supporting Illumina's valued clinical customers primarily across Northern Spain. This role is designed for an individual passionate about cutting-edge genomic technologies and committed to ensuring customer success through expert application and operational support.
- • Your primary responsibility will involve providing deep technical expertise in Illumina's sequencing technologies. This includes ensuring the seamless installation, optimal operation, and continuous improvement of our advanced platforms within customer laboratories.
- • A significant portion of your time, approximately 50%, will be dedicated to working directly with a specific on-site customer. This close collaboration allows for tailored support and a profound understanding of their unique workflows and challenges.
- • Beyond your dedicated customer, you will extend your expertise to support a broader range of regional customers. This will be achieved in close partnership with Illumina's Sales, Service, and other commercial teams, ensuring a unified and effective customer experience.
- • Your work will directly contribute to significant advancements in genomics, impacting critical areas such as oncology, reproductive health, and emerging scientific markets. By enabling customers to achieve high-impact insights, you will play a role in life-changing discoveries and improved patient outcomes.
- • You will act as a trusted scientific consultant, building and nurturing strong, long-term relationships with customers. This involves understanding their evolving needs and proactively offering solutions and support.
- • Collaboration is key in this role. You will work closely with a diverse team of colleagues across Europe, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance overall customer support and drive innovation.
- • A core aspect of your role will be to provide technical expertise aimed at optimizing sequencing data output. This applies to both existing installed solutions and newly implemented platforms, ensuring customers consistently achieve high-quality results.
- • You will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing key sequencing quality metrics and other relevant performance indicators. This proactive approach is crucial for maintaining laboratory stability, ensuring reliability, and maximizing operational efficiency.
- • Troubleshooting will be a regular part of your duties. You will address issues related to Illumina applications, assay design, software applications, sequencers, and liquid handling systems, diagnosing problems and implementing effective solutions.
- • You will also perform essential preventive maintenance and Level 1 repairs on sequencing instruments and liquid handling equipment, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous operation.
- • When complex application or instrument-related issues arise, you will expertly escalate them internally to the appropriate teams, ensuring timely and effective resolution for the customer.
- • You will coordinate the installation of new systems, which includes conducting facility readiness assessments, performing instrument validation, and providing comprehensive customer training to ensure a smooth transition and successful adoption.
- • A critical responsibility is to review and approve the operational performance and quality of customer equipment. You will also be tasked with instructing customers on proper operation and routine maintenance procedures to foster self-sufficiency and best practices.
- • You will actively assess customer needs, identifying the most appropriate internal resources or teams for support. This requires effective coordination with Sales, Engineering, or other internal departments to ensure comprehensive problem-solving.
- • You will play a role in driving product usage and contributing to key account management and strategic sales initiatives. This will involve delivering compelling technical presentations and product demonstrations to showcase the value of Illumina's solutions.
- • You will collaborate closely with Sales and Marketing teams on strategic initiatives, leveraging your strong technical expertise and market understanding to inform and execute successful campaigns.
- • This role requires a proactive and independent approach to problem-solving, analyzing multiple variables to identify root causes and implement effective solutions in a complex technical environment.
- • You will be expected to build trust and credibility with customers through excellent customer service, demonstrating a strong orientation towards meeting and exceeding their expectations.
- • The position requires a willingness and ability to travel up to 60% of the time across Galicia, Castilla y León, and Asturias, and potentially other regions in Spain as needed, to provide on-site support and build customer relationships.
