  • • The Field Medical Lead at Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited is a strategic leadership role responsible for guiding and developing a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to drive scientific engagement with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare providers (HCPs), and healthcare entities across Canada. This role ensures alignment with Takeda’s Medical Affairs strategic priorities, fostering scientific excellence and external collaboration in the dermatology therapeutic area while upholding the highest standards of compliance, ethics, and patient-centered care.
  • • Day to day, the Field Medical Lead will lead, manage, mentor, and coach the MSL team to drive performance and foster a high-performing culture; set clear expectations and hold team members accountable for goal achievement, territory planning, insights reporting, training completion, and congress participation; conduct observations of MSL external scientific engagements (both in-person and virtual) and ensure proper documentation monitoring; develop and implement annual field medical KOL/HCP engagement plans, scientific communication plans, and congress plans in alignment with the Medical Director/Lead; support the development of insight reports from MSLs to inform Brand and Medical strategies; build and maintain relationships with cross-functional partners to support medical tactical plan execution; develop and maintain deep scientific expertise in dermatology, including Takeda’s marketed products and investigational compounds, and provide training and guidance to the MSL team; provide compliance and ethical training to ensure adherence to all relevant policies, SOPs, regulations, and guidance; engage in scientific discussions with KOLs/HCPs and internal stakeholders as needed, documenting per SOPs; and oversee the team’s annual budget cycle to ensure expenditures remain within policy and are strategically aligned.

  • • In this role, the individual will develop advanced leadership capabilities in managing matrix teams, deepen expertise in dermatology therapeutics and medical affairs strategy, enhance skills in scientific storytelling and KOL engagement, gain experience in budget oversight and resource planning, and strengthen their ability to influence without authority while navigating complex stakeholder landscapes. They will also grow their proficiency in leveraging digital tools and AI for scientific communication and team effectiveness, positioning them for future senior leadership roles within Medical Affairs or broader healthcare strategy.

šŸŽÆ Requirements

  • • Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) preferred, with consideration given to candidates with relevant pharmaceutical industry experience, clinical work, research, or academic background.
  • • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or relevant clinical/scientific experience, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities within Medical/Scientific Affairs.
  • • Proven experience leading teams, including hiring, training, development planning, and performance management of Medical Science Liaisons or similar field-based scientific roles.
  • • Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, including product development lifecycle, regulatory processes, and medical affairs functions, with thorough knowledge of legal, compliance, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., IMC) and Health Canada policies.
  • • Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate complex scientific data to both expert and lay audiences, with strong verbal and written communication skills, including scientific writing and presenting.
  • • Demonstrated strategic thinking, problem-solving, and business acumen, including financial skills to forecast and manage a budget and drive solutions in ambiguous environments.
