Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Own the monthly management accounts cycle end-to-end: prepare consolidated P&L, balance-sheet and cash-flow statements for the Group within 5 working days of month-end, ensuring every line is supported by clear commentary and variance analysis that non-finance leaders can act on.
- • Build and maintain a rolling 13-week cash-flow model that feeds directly into daily treasury decisions; flag liquidity risks early and recommend funding levers (supplier re-phasing, client payment acceleration, short-term credit facilities) to keep the Group within its target cash headroom.
- • Drive the annual budgeting and quarterly re-forecasting process: partner with Sales, Marketing, Product and Operations to translate ambitious OKRs into bottom-up financial plans, challenge assumptions, and create scenario models that show the impact of 20 % revenue growth, new market entry or pricing changes.
- • Strengthen internal controls across purchase-to-pay, order-to-cash and payroll cycles: design approval matrices, segregation-of-duty maps and automated exception reports in Xero + Google Sheets/BI tools that scale as transaction volumes grow beyond 50 k invoices per year.
- • Lead the year-end statutory audit and group tax compliance: coordinate external auditors, prepare lead schedules and consolidation packs, manage information requests, and ensure FRS102-compliant financial statements are filed at Companies House and HMRC ahead of deadlines.
- • Optimise working capital by analysing debtor days, creditor days and inventory equivalents (pre-paid virtual-office licences); implement targeted initiatives that free £500k+ cash within 12 months without harming supplier or client relationships.
- • Evaluate and implement finance-tech upgrades: scope requirements for AP automation, spend-management cards, revenue-recognition modules and BI dashboards; own vendor selection, UAT and training to reduce manual bookkeeping hours by 30 %.
- • Provide commercial insight to the CEO and Head of Finance: build unit-economics models for new service lines, price elasticity tests for company-formation packages, and cohort profitability dashboards that inform go/no-go decisions on marketing spend.
- • Mentor and upskill a small finance team (1-2 assistant accountants): set clear KPIs, run weekly stand-ups, and create SOPs that embed a culture of continuous improvement and B Corp-aligned ethical standards.
- • Champion cross-functional projects that link finance to sustainability goals: quantify carbon-cost savings from the Cycle-to-Work scheme, model the ROI of switching to renewable-energy suppliers, and track social-impact metrics for annual B Corp recertification.
- • Act as the key point of contact for HMRC, banks, insurers and grant providers; maintain relationships that secure favourable credit terms, R&D tax-credit claims and green-loan facilities to fuel the next phase of 20 % year-on-year growth.
🎯 Requirements
- • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with 2–3 years PQE
- • Proven experience in a Finance Manager or similar role within a fast-growing start-up, scale-up or SME
- • Strong working knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS102), corporation tax, VAT and payroll regulations
- • Advanced proficiency in Xero and Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets; familiarity with BI tools and AP automation platforms preferred
🏖️ Benefits
- • 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays
- • 14 weeks enhanced maternity pay / 2 weeks enhanced paternity pay
- • Cycle-to-Work scheme, indoor bike storage, showers and a dog-friendly office
- • Free Wednesday lunches, unlimited bean-to-cup coffee and daily fresh fruit
