- • Distro, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced and strategically-minded Contracted Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our dynamic team and serve a diverse portfolio of independent clients. This pivotal role is designed for finance professionals who possess a deep understanding of financial strategy, excel in cash flow forecasting, and have a proven track record of helping organizations scale. If you are a forward-thinking finance leader with a passion for continuous learning, professional growth, and mentoring others, this opportunity offers a unique platform to expand your expertise and impact as a CFO leader.
- • As a Contracted CFO, you will act as the Head of Finance for your assigned clients, forging strong partnerships with their owners and executive teams. Your primary responsibility will be to align their financial strategies directly with their overarching business objectives, ensuring that financial planning and execution are seamlessly integrated with growth and operational goals. This involves a comprehensive approach to financial management, from initial planning to ongoing monitoring and strategic adjustments.
- • A core component of this role involves leading robust budgeting, forecasting, and sophisticated 3-statement financial modeling processes. You will be instrumental in developing and maintaining detailed 12-month budgets, executing quarterly financial refreshes to adapt to evolving market conditions, and creating precise 13-week cash flow forecasts to ensure operational liquidity and proactive financial management. These financial models will serve as critical tools for strategic decision-making and performance tracking.
- • You will collaborate closely with clients, typically businesses with revenues ranging from $600K to $15M, to proactively identify key opportunities for growth and enhanced profitability. This involves not just reporting on past performance but also providing forward-looking insights and strategic recommendations that drive tangible business improvements. Your expertise will be crucial in helping these businesses navigate complex financial landscapes and achieve their expansion targets.
- • Developing and meticulously monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) will be a fundamental aspect of your role. You will establish and track critical metrics, including working capital targets, to provide clear guidance for decision-making and to accurately measure financial performance against established goals. This data-driven approach ensures that clients remain focused on the most impactful areas of their business.
- • A significant part of your advisory capacity will involve guiding clients on various financing strategies. This includes providing expert advice on Small Business Administration (SBA) loans, securing lines of credit, developing comprehensive financing strategies, and actively supporting relationships with banks. You will also play a key role in preparing clients for potential exits, ensuring their financial house is in order and their valuation is optimized.
- • You will be responsible for proactively identifying potential financial risks and ensuring that clients maintain full compliance with relevant regulations. Furthermore, you will recommend and implement improvements to back-office processes, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and overall financial control within the client organizations.
- • Maintaining consistent and effective client communication is paramount. This role requires you to conduct regular client interactions, including weekly 30-minute stand-up meetings to address immediate needs, more in-depth monthly CFO calls lasting 60–120 minutes for strategic discussions, and comprehensive quarterly strategic reviews lasting 90 minutes to assess long-term progress and adjust plans accordingly.
- • You will be responsible for delivering polished monthly financial packages that provide a clear overview of performance, conducting thorough quarterly cost audits to identify areas for optimization, and overseeing the accurate and timely production of all accounting reporting. This ensures that clients have reliable financial information at their fingertips.
- • This role demands an independent thinker who can operate effectively within an established CFO framework, demonstrating exceptional time-management skills to balance responsiveness with the effective allocation of time across multiple clients. A genuine passion for training and mentoring junior staff is also highly valued, contributing to the overall growth and development of the finance function within Distro, Inc. and its client base.
- • You will leverage your expertise in financial platforms such as QuickBooks Online (QBO), Xero, and advanced Excel functionalities, alongside modern Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and reporting tools. Familiarity with SBA loan processes, navigating banking relationships, and understanding small business funding strategies are essential. The ability to advise across a variety of industries, including local service businesses such as restaurants, construction, and professional services, is a significant advantage.
- • Ultimately, you will act as a trusted advisor, embodying the role of an in-house CFO for your clients, while strictly adhering to Distro, Inc.'s firm standards, established processes, and leadership directives. This blend of autonomy and structured guidance ensures high-quality service delivery and consistent client satisfaction.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience as a CFO, VP of Finance, or senior financial leader, with a strong track record of strategic financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously, balancing responsiveness with effective time allocation and project management.
- • Expertise in financial modeling (3-statement models), KPI development and monitoring, and experience with financial platforms like QuickBooks Online (QBO), Xero, and advanced Excel.
- • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively advise business owners and executive teams, and mentor junior staff.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote work environment, offering flexibility and work-life balance.
- • Opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio of clients across various industries, expanding your professional experience.
- • Collaborative and supportive team environment focused on professional development and continuous learning.
- • Competitive contract compensation commensurate with experience and expertise.
