- • Financial Clearance Specialist role at UMass Memorial Health, responsible for verifying patient financial and insurance information prior to medical services to ensure timely collection of patient liabilities and smooth access to care.
- • Day-to-day duties include initiating contact with insurance companies for eligibility verification, estimating patient financial responsibility (copays, deductibles, coinsurance), processing payments, securing pre-certifications, referring patients to financial counselors when needed, rescheduling appointments based on financial or clinical guidance, and maintaining accurate documentation in the system.
- • Part of the Financial Clearance PAC team within UMass Memorial Health, a premier health system in Central Massachusetts with over 20,000 employees dedicated to patient care, academic excellence, and research, operating under the SHARE union with a commitment to organizational Standards of Respect.
- • Opportunity to develop expertise in healthcare revenue cycle, patient financial services, insurance verification, and medical billing while contributing to patient access and financial integrity in a mission-driven healthcare environment.
🎯 Requirements
- • Minimum High School Diploma or GED; business concentration preferred
- • Four or more years of experience in a business office setting, with hospital revenue cycle, physician office, or collection agency experience preferred
- • Prior experience in a healthcare environment is required
- • Working knowledge of personal computers and business office applications is preferred
- • Familiarity with hospital computer systems is a plus
- • Knowledge of third-party collections and reimbursement is preferred
