- • The FIU Compliance Associate on Kraken’s FIU Scale Team plays a pivotal role in scaling the company’s financial intelligence unit to support global expansion into new jurisdictions and product lines while maintaining rigorous AML and regulatory compliance standards. This role is critical to Kraken’s mission of accelerating global crypto adoption by ensuring that growth is responsible, secure, and aligned with evolving financial crime regulations.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include leading transaction monitoring optimization through rule testing, threshold tuning, and designing new monitoring scenarios to improve detection accuracy and reduce false positives; identifying and driving automation and workflow improvements across FIU processes to increase operational efficiency; evaluating and implementing emerging technologies such as LLMs and AI-enabled tools to enhance alert triage, investigations, and SAR filing; partnering with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to support vendor integrations, monitoring infrastructure upgrades, and FIU tooling enhancements; collaborating with Compliance leadership, including Regional Compliance Officers (RCOs) and Money Laundering Reporting Officers (MLROs), to maintain well-governed transaction monitoring frameworks aligned with regulatory expectations; and supporting FIU scalability by designing processes and monitoring strategies that enable expansion into new products, regions, and increased transaction volumes.
- • The FIU Scale Team operates within Kraken’s broader Compliance organization, which is tasked with enabling responsible growth amid a rapidly evolving global regulatory landscape. - • In this role, the individual will develop deep expertise in AI-driven compliance automation, blockchain analytics, and cross-functional technology integration within a high-growth fintech environment. They will gain leadership experience in shaping FIU scalability strategies, influencing product and engineering roadmaps, and contributing to Kraken’s reputation as a trusted, secure, and compliant global crypto exchange.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of experience in AML, financial crime compliance, or FIU operations, with deep knowledge of transaction monitoring frameworks, suspicious activity detection, and regulatory expectations under BSA/AML regimes
- • 3+ years of experience designing, testing, and tuning transaction monitoring rules, including threshold optimization, scenario design, and alert reduction strategies
- • 3+ years of experience working with transaction monitoring systems and compliance tooling, including case management platforms, monitoring infrastructure, and investigative workflows
- • Experience driving process optimization or automation initiatives within compliance or financial crime programs to improve operational efficiency and scalability
- • Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Data, or Operations teams to implement monitoring controls, vendor integrations, or compliance technology solutions
- • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, with experience using metrics, dashboards, and data analysis to evaluate monitoring effectiveness and improve detection quality
