đź“‹ Description
- • As a Forward Deployed Engineering Lead at Promise Holdings, Inc., you will be at the forefront of transforming public service delivery by working directly with government agencies and utility providers. Your primary mission will be to modernize critical systems, ensuring that essential benefits and assistance programs reach individuals efficiently and with dignity. This role is designed for a hands-on engineering leader who thrives in dynamic, high-stakes environments, bridging the gap between complex technical challenges and tangible real-world outcomes.
- • You will operate at the cutting edge of major deployments, collaborating intimately with customer stakeholders to meticulously define problems, navigate and untangle intricate legacy systems, and deliver robust production code that functions flawlessly in real-world operational settings. Success in this role hinges on your ability to excel in environments characterized by high ambiguity and significant stakes, making astute trade-offs, maintaining rapid progress, and transforming convoluted constraints into elegant, scalable solutions.
- • A core aspect of your responsibility will be to build, nurture, and lead a high-performing team of Forward Deployed Engineers. This involves setting an exceptionally high standard for execution, providing expert coaching through complex problem-solving scenarios, and cultivating a team culture rooted in profound ownership, unwavering trust, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Ultimately, this position is about owning the entire lifecycle of outcomes: unblocking critical launches, addressing and closing product gaps, and developing a team that consistently delivers impactful results where they are most needed.
- • Your day-to-day will involve a blend of strategic leadership and deep technical engagement. You will be responsible for the complete ownership of customer engagements, from initial problem scoping and solution design to writing production-ready code, deploying it, and ensuring its sustained functionality. This requires translating often ambiguous or vaguely defined requirements into precise, clean, and effective technical execution.
- • The 'forward deployed' philosophy means you will build from the desired outcome backward. You'll start by clearly defining the real-world result that needs to be achieved and then meticulously work backward across product strategy, data management, system integrations, and operational processes to make it a reality. Your technical contributions could span writing backend code, debugging complex APIs, meticulously cleaning and preparing data, configuring intricate workflows, participating in crucial customer calls, or even patching a critical script late at night before a major launch. The ethos is that no task is beneath you; your focus is on achieving the objective.
- • You will be the ultimate owner of the 'last mile' of delivery. This means guaranteeing that the solutions you and your team build not only function technically but also operate effectively in production environments, with real users, under actual operational conditions. Your vigilance ensures that our technology delivers on its promise.
- • Balancing speed with sound judgment is paramount. You will need to discern when to deploy a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) or a 'scrappy' version 1 to gain momentum and gather feedback, versus when to invest the necessary time and resources in building robust, long-term foundational elements that ensure scalability and maintainability.
- • In high-pressure situations, you will be the calm and steadying force. This involves debugging critical issues live, swiftly unblocking stakeholders who are dependent on your team's work, and maintaining essential momentum during high-stakes launches and critical deployments.
- • A key part of your role is transforming hard-won lessons from deployments into systemic improvements. You will identify recurring challenges or inefficiencies encountered in the field and leverage them to develop reusable tooling, enhance existing product features, and contribute to the overall maturation of our engineering practices.
- • Critical thinking is essential. You will be expected to challenge underlying assumptions, proactively identify potential risks and pitfalls early in the development cycle, and make pragmatic, well-reasoned decisions that effectively balance the need for rapid deployment with the requirement for long-term system durability and reliability.
- • This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of public services, directly impacting the lives of vulnerable populations by ensuring they receive the support they need. You will be instrumental in building technology that fosters efficiency, revenue recovery for agencies, and the delivery of services with respect and dignity. Your work will have a profound and measurable impact on communities across the nation.
