- • As the Founding Game Designer at Pebble, you will define the core experience of a groundbreaking generative learning world where AI-driven companionship and procedural content converge to create meaningful, educational play for children aged 6–10. This role is pivotal in shaping a new paradigm in interactive entertainment—one that prioritizes curiosity, emotional connection, and developmental growth over passive consumption or repetitive mechanics.
- • You will design the exploration systems, pacing, progression mechanics, and interaction frameworks that make the AI companion feel like a central, evolving relationship rather than a scripted sidekick. Your work will focus on creating systems that generate coherent, engaging, and educationally rich experiences through constraints and rules, not hand-crafted levels, ensuring the world feels alive, responsive, and worth returning to.
- • You will collaborate closely with engineers, artists, and educators in a Godot 4 environment to prototype, test, and refine mechanics that emerge from generative AI and voice-driven interaction, translating abstract concepts of child development and AI capabilities into tangible, playful systems.
- • You will establish the foundational design language, documentation practices, and creative vision for Pebble, acting as the first designer to build systems from scratch with incomplete information, iterating rapidly based on playtesting and feedback from both children and caregivers.
- • You will advocate for and contribute to the visual and experiential tone of the game, ensuring that art direction, audio, and interaction design align with the emotional and developmental needs of young players, fostering wonder, safety, and sustained engagement.
- • You will help bridge the gap between entertainment and education by designing experiences that are not only fun but also promote cognitive, social, and emotional growth, positioning Pebble as a trusted tool for parents and a source of joy for children.
- • You will have the opportunity to define what it means to learn through play in the age of AI, influencing not just a product but the broader conversation around ethical, child-centered AI applications in education and family technology.
🎯 Requirements
- • Shipped at least one game or interactive product where you owned core design decisions in progression, pacing, systems, or economy design.
- • Portfolio demonstrating systems thinking—showing how you designed rules that produced emergent player behavior, not just authored fixed content.
- • Ability to prototype quickly and iterate based on playtesting, not just theory.
- • Strong design communication skills: capable of writing clear design docs, arguing for mechanics, and explaining reasoning to engineers and non-designers without hand-waving.
- • Comfortable being the first designer—making foundational calls with incomplete information and revising them as you learn.
- • Strong visual eye and opinions about art direction, with ability to provide strong input on the visual side.
- • Genuine curiosity about how children aged 6–10 think, play, and learn, even without formal child development background.
- • Experience designing for generative or AI-driven systems—understanding how to design constraints, rules, and possibility spaces rather than hand-crafting every encounter.
